It seems SciTe is/becoming the semi-official editor for AutoIt. Various mods have been implemented or are in the works such as combing SciTe with their AU3 syntax checker (which would be AHK syntax checker), AU3 help file (...AHK help file), AU3scriptwriter/macro recorder integration in the works (...AUTOscriptwriter...same creator??).

Since AHK has equivalent tools, but slightly different, will AutoHotkey be making its own modifications to SciTe too and put it as part of its download?

If you are planning to use SciTe, I also have the suggestion of using split help screens that can show all of AHK's commands. Perhaps you could "right click" to copy and paste them into your script "in progress" or normal click on them to bring up the help in a split screen.

I would like to see both SciTe, Crimson, and other free editors adapted for use with AHK. Thanks to Rajat, beardboy, and Mike Griffin, the following editors already have syntax coloring and in at least two cases, a clip library for pasting syntax: TextPad, EditPlus, and PSPad.

Given that my priority for now is the development -- namely the items on the planned features list -- volunteers are welcome to help with this process. I understand that SciTe needs to be recompiled to support new syntaxes. It's probably easier than it sounds, but that's an additional barrier to adapting SciTe.

As for the syntax checker, that is built-in to AHK so there is no need for an external program. In addition, you can enable context-sensitive help in any editor by using this script by Rajat. This script even works while you're typing in the forum here (or any edit control). Just press the hotkey and the help file will open to the correct page for that command. It will also work if you select a command name on a web page and press the hotkey.

There is another free SciTe-like editor based on Scintilla, called Notepad++. You can define your own styles very easily via a GUI along side of your ahk script so that you can see the effects. http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/.

I've made a note of that, thanks.

support for editors for au3 (except TextPad, which is done by Jon) is added by enthusiasts and au3 users. so if somebody comes ahead and does it, then great. I'd rather wish Chris spending that time on bettering AHK.

Sorry, if you or anyone inferred that Notepad++ would create a style what we could share. Notepad++ styles are done by the user. I guess I could have explained that better.
