Why not have a script that converts equivalent AU3 commands to AHK and AHK commands to AU3?

Now hold on before everybody starts putting bullets in their guns and breaking out the razor sharp axes... Here would be some things to think about first:

1. A script like that is very "do-able". If it can be done, why not put aside the "hate" and do it? For instance there are already, AU3 scripts to convert Visual Basic Script to AU3 script. This would be just an extension on this type of concept. Furthermore, the script(s) could be bi-directional, so nobody should feel "left out".

2. AHK and AU3 users could share each other utilities/tools. Obviously, not everything, because the languages do have some significant differences. There are differences between VBScript and AHK or AU3, but the advantages to this type conversion are obvious. Plus, there would be some interesting things that you could do in both languages as a result.

3. Not only just conversions between AHK or AU3, but perhaps some other target languages like VBScript, Perl, and other scripting languages as time goes by. These type of conversion scripts would make it easy for people to port their old scripting language programs to AHK.

What do you think?

To have a start you should have/create an index which commands/functions in both are matching (eg. > 80%). If you show up with that list, you'd have a chance to get it ... sometime Wink

I've started with something like that* ages ago, just to show that in most cases you've to code a similar number of lines regardless if you use either this or that.

Good luck. Cool
