I Don't know what it's actualy called but, I can describe it.
When I Click in the middle of a word and drag to select text if I go past the first word it automaticaly moves the begining of the selection to include the whole first word. I find this , it does not do this with holding shift and using the arrow keys.
Does anybody know how to turn this off? |

This is just one more dumb-ass Microsoft Annoyance...& of course they don't give us a checkbox to turn if off! |

| A couple years ago I played around with edit control messages in an attempt to customize this feature. I was somewhat successful: Edit Control Selection Delimiter. Maybe you can tweak it to your preference. |

| First go to the opposite direction, at least until a whole word is highlighted, then back to the right direction. There can be other combinations too. |

Stop selecting the entire word
Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
Click Advanced.
Under Editing options, clear the check box next to When selecting, automatically select entire word. |

How many MS progs do it? Word and Outlook typically share the same editor, so if you've changed it for Word is should prevent it in Outlook. I don't recall ever having that problem in Excel or PowerPoint so I don't think it occurs in those, but I could be wrong. _________________ Try Quick Search for Autohotkey or see the tutorial for newbies. |

| It also does it in the help files like "AutoHotkey.chm" and that has no settings at all. |

None, CHM files use the Internet Explorer engine. But apparently IE doesn't have a mean to disable that. For example, answers in Smart Word Selection in IE - How to disable? are clueless...
Yes another reason for not using IE, but alas it is still there in a number of products... _________________
