I don't know what you all think about it, but I get annoyed from all this spam posted here in recent times.

All this ****.ru URLs. Maybe it's time to look out for a solution.

Maybe only allow posting with guest rights in just one subforum (ask for help)?
Tell me what you think about it.
Do you get annoyed by this spam?

Cheers

I am happy about the fact that the spam-guests disappeared from the german forum after few days of heavy spamming...

I would be very happy if Guests would not be allowed to write everywere (but of course read everywhere!).

I think write-access should be given to "Ask for help" and maybe "Bugreports".

All the other sections are for repetitive users which could also use a registered nick...
Hmm I hear BoBo and toralf cry ^^
Would be very interesting to know why they are guests most of the time ^^

It's also interesting that AGU posted as Guest a topic against guest-postings ^^

Yeah, you're right Thalon. Shame on me. Wink
Really funny that. Mr. Green Didn't think about the deeper sense in complaining 'bout guest spamming but writing it as guest.

You see, I can log myself on, if I want. I'm just too lazy to log in all the time.
And yes, I know there is an autologin option. But I usually block cookies (as well as Javascript, Flash, ... and all that annoying crap.

Using appropriate language may also be suggested. Rolling Eyes

The suggestion to allow guests to post only in the Help forum is under consideration. However, there are a few other things that may be tried first.

Since I don't visit the German forum frequently, please let me know if spam ever again becomes a serious problem there.

Thanks for the ideas.

At the moment all spammers are gone (maybe forum is too little Wink ), but I will inform you about any heavy spamming if it would occure again in future!

Thx,
Thalon

You mangaged to isolate yourself quite effectively, so you should be able to figure it out, but in case you cannot, the f word is not really appropriate for public use, especially if children are present.

Get the idea?

I am more offended by the public use of the word than of the spam that you can't seem to tolerate, and I have yet to trip over on these forums. Is it that obvious if it hasn't attracted my attention?

Don't get me wrong, as I hate spam too, but I can tolerate it just a bit more than offensive language.

Sorry, english (AE/BE) is not my mother tongue. I thought the f* word is used quite often in AE within every context. Just watch some american series or movies. They use it quite often. e.g. the Osbournes (MTV).
OK, this might not be the average american family. Wink

I thought "whatthef*" translates to s.th like "any". If I've offended you let me apologize for it. Didn't think this is so offensive. Honestly.

On the other hand let me say that I personally doubt that there are childrens present here. But nevertheless again sorry for that f* word. Mr. Green

Fair enough. But as we say in Germany "bitte nicht Äpfel mit Birnen vergleichen". While Spam is definitley a waste of bandwith and more important a waste of time without beeing asked if I want to get it, different kind of social behaviour/culture is quite difficult to decide about. Eg. Eminem (Marshall Mathers) wouldn't agree if its about its own, but might agree if its about his daughter/children (and that's a single person!).

As the internet is accesible quite easy, its up to you (or those who share your opinion) to prevent that children can't access endangered areas. To censor all areas wouldn't help at all, as those f... children find it interesting to provocate adults whenever they can - for the reason that they can (you might remember that unless you were born with 40 years of age).

I respect your opinion, and you've to respect mine. That's the deal Wink

btw. @BoBo

LEO says:

"Äpfel nicht mit Birnen vergleichen" -> "to compare apples and oranges" Wink Mr. Green

Offensichtlich sind in amerikanischen Breiten Orangen das gleiche wie bei uns Birnen.

Fair enough.
Honestly, I take more offense to it than many of my american brotheren.
As a DJ Entertainer, It totally annoys me that all the artists are playing music unfit for childrens ears, and yet it gets played over public airwaves that they have almost unlimited access to. The F word for example can be slearly heard in many tracks (Especialy of Eminems) that have had only the u omited to pass FCC screening. To that, I say why bother, as you can still completely make out the word. It's too easy for children to see and hear things that are not appropriate. I try to keep my children from this, but we know it's quite impossible to protect them from everything. We can only do our best, and hope that when explained to them, they understand the reasoning, and continue on in life, following the guidance you gave them. We can also hope that there are others that share our convictions, and help us keep the world a pleasant , appropriate place to raise our children within. You can say it's all up to me, but I still need your help, as well as everyone elses, to make it happen. It's a team effort! Awareness is really the first step. If you wish to ignore it, then I can't do much other than complain and keep my own kids from the site. I cannot visit every site I think my kids will visit prior to them visiting however, and it is quite unrealistic to thick I could, so as to prevent them from doing so.

IMO, something I do with my spouse in the privacy of our bedroom, with out our children present, does not have to be shared in this context on openly public sites. They will have sex ed when the time is approriate. And it will be explained properly. If this site were to require membership to view, it wouldn't be such an issue, as it would close some doors to their viewing, but it is not.

It's really to bad artists like Marshal think they have to throw a couple foul words into every song they write just to get the airplay, and recognition, and attention they so desire, and that corrupts everyone that listens to them.

There are a couple of his tracks I would consider playing, as they have an appropriate message, if only they didn't have inappropriate language embeded within. I can't change the world alone. I know you know that you can't either. but for those willing to come together, it is possible to make a difference.

Oh, And something else, My children have no need to visit this site per say, but that doesn't stop them from looking over my shoulder should I be reading here. If I'm not expecting something, it could catch us all by suprise.

Dear jsmain,

I agree with you that we can only manage it together.

As english is as well as for AGU not my native language, I didn't understand you sentence as well.
Do I understand it correctly, that you haven't seen spam that much in this forum? If so, you are lucky. AGU, others and myself are cleaning the forum every day. I personally delete each day 4 to 5 spam posts. The spam mostly has links to porn , illegal or malicious web sites. This is annoying and take a lot of time (15 to 20 minutes each day) I could spend on other tasks.
But at the end we are all trying to make this forum a better place.
