Hi Xaviar.
I'd like to add my opinion about TC if I may.
I agree, it's interface is not as flashy as some other tools, but once you get used to the interface, it is a pure delight to use. From moving files, renaming multiple files, viewing, editing, launching favorite programs, checking sizes of directories, searching, sync'ing folders between PC and notebooks, tabbed directories, zipping, splitting/combining files .... it's just too easy.
I also regularly use ftp to transfer files from PC to UNIX servers and back and everything I need is there in TC. I don't need any other program (other than AHK now!).
Regards,
Casman. |

... and by the way the Total Commander community is a big AutoHotkey fan! Nothing can beat TC's flexibility (IMHO) and there are so many features buried in the program, you will start a journey exploring the possibilities. Come to the forum if you have questions _________________ Is there another word for synonym? |

There is no other file manager except Total Commander.
I guarantie. The only bad thing about it is its author, Christian Ghsiler, who is not concerned about its user, so if you have a wish or suggestion, don't count on it.
That said, TC has so many options, and is possibly one of the programs that is "not buggy at all" that you will hardly need any improvement. Also, AHK can solve most of what you don't have. _________________

Mmm, you guys didn't even provided a link to Total Commander...
28€ ($34) isn't too expensive if the program is as good as you boast, but I don't feel the urge for such buy.
I am currently happy with Windows Explorer with some good shell extensions and some good freewares to enhance the possibilities (AHK being one of them, of course!).
I probably miss a lot of features/goodies, but well, I can live with it. _________________

U can use trial version as long as u wish. It presents a nag screen, but then, we are AHK users...
Anyway, I suggest you to try it a little longer.... and visit TC forum for help. Comparing Explorer and TC is the same as comparing Notepad with... Word or UltraEdit... _________________

I chose a long time ago to stop using shareware programs if I don't pay for them. Just for respect of the author. Unless they explicitely state that such usage is OK for them.
And I tried some "Commander"-like programs (ie. with 2 pane fileviews) without being overly convinced by their workflow (ie. it just doesn't suit my way of working). Perhaps when I will get a 1600 or 1920 pixel wide monitor...
To each his own.
PS.: If I use a "Notepad", that's indeed a supercharged Notepad... _________________

While Total Commander sounds a little like "Wollt Ihr den totalen Kommander. Wollt ihr ihn? ...*" (no idea why its developer has choosen that term to name his, TBH superb application ). I seem to remember that it was formerly known as WinCommander which sounds quite similar to "Wing Commander" and therefore has been forced to be renamed OR as Microsoft owns every Win on this Planet, for that reason.
Well, it's a nice EierlegendeWollmilchSau, indeed. Nevertheless all of those tools* are NortonCommander clones by default.
*SpeedCommander, VolkovCommander, BoBoCommander etc. pp.. |

For TC's fans I've embedded tiny sound snippet .
While listening you should ...
1) replace the word ---> 'Krieg' in mind with ---> 'Commander'
2) swap to "BoBo'sCrudeKindaHumor"-Mode (mandatory)

Hej, Bobo
that really isn't very important how the program got its name, nor is it clone or not. How good it is counts only.
Yes they are all clones of NC for DOS, but then, Norton has cool idea witch he didn't developed very well, thats why nobody used NC for Windows many years latter. Even in DOS times, Dos Navigator was uncountable times better file manager (made by "The Bat" guys)
Total (formerly Windows, not Win) Commander is the best succider to Dos Navigator. Other navigators were ither unsuccesfull or made for specific purpose, like Volcov Commander witch is extraordinary small utility and was made to be able to run it from floppy disk and still have almost hole diskette available for usage. Then it also supports Long File Names (LFN) in DOS, with SysInternals DOS LFN driver.
Anyway, it is ofcourse personal thing, but I don't think that Exploer can be counted as serious file manager no more then IE6 can be used as serious browser nor Notepad as serious editor etc... Those are default things, made for people who doesn't need anything but basic functionality.
Anyway, Bobo, you usualy don't have enough arguments for your claims, witch is obvious since you usualy soon switch to some form of funny conversation, like the one above. I find that malitious, covered by some form of nice behavior. I guess you are well informed on Shopenhauers Eristic Dialectic work, cuz you use the tricks mentioned in that manual extensively... _________________
