I know the website is in some sort of transition, but was wondering if there was a way for members to stop viewing spam topics and posts.  More than ignore, but to not view looking at them period, once you put the spammer into the ignore list.  It appears the present settings don't stop the viewing of the topics that a spammer creates.  I think this will defeat a lot of what the spammer is trying to do, as members can easily remove viewing topics they have created.

if there was a simple way to detect spam messages, you'd think we'd just delete them automatically instead of developing a complex system for normal non-spammer users to not see them. Deleting them would make no one see them, which is better. Stopping them in the first place would be best.

It has been like this for a very long time, no one really complains as it gets taken care of relatively fast. Used to be much faster but now 90% of the moderators are ahkscript-only, they don't come here often.

 

And the site isn't really in a transition period. There's nothing to transition to. There's just 2 forums, ahkscript and this one.

 

Afaik, only 2, maybe 3 people have server access where they can add addons or do the hard work of making an addon from scratch and applying it. of those 2 or 3 people, 1 person, the person who runs this place (Polyethene) is 100% inactive and doesn't do anything with this site anymore (more info). The other person(s) mainly stay on http://ahkscript.org/but that place has spam issues too. But more moderators are active there.

Other people I can only guess: probably joedf, maybe tank. no idea if either of them do, I'm just assuming.

I don't understand why Polyethene hasn't given server rights to somebody else.  It's understandable to be absent, as people can have health, domestic issues, work problems, etc...  Designating an alternate or handing over power of attorney makes sense.  Maybe e-mail or call and work something out.  Because what if the server crashes?

 

Also, if users could ignore topics created by a certain user, I think it would greatly cut down on the purpose of what the spammer(s) are trying to do.

currently i know that tank, poly, lexikos and me, all have FTP access.
But thats it. Only (probably) poly has full server access.

I feel that the spam is worse here. Since some spam accounts here actually make 100+ posts. And, like tidbit said, there are not as many active moderators here.

I do what I can, but theres only so much I can do at a time

I'll see if I can setup akismet on here and ahkscript.org and maybe some other kind of custom filter but that will take more time.

a nice thing about IPB though: handling spam is 1000x easier! most of the time.

goto account, mark as spammer. select all posts, press delete. done.

But don't forget that it's because there's no guest posting spammers here.
Phpbb takes a lot more clicks by default.
That's why I installed banhammer

So the question is... (It's been asked before probably) why does AHK.com have no guest posting but ahkscript.org should/ does?
