I was more concerned with the images being there 6 months to several years to avoid the forum having too many dead links.

Seems like "attachments" to your post would be the best to fix that issue. As long as the forum post was there the attachment should be there.

Besides, using services like blogger and wordpress keeps you away from the some of the coolest parts of HTML , the relative-linking, realtime-updating webpages, <head> tags and many else.
Yup! and that's why i use pancake: you can use markdown syntax or just use your own custom html. sadly, no php :(
but for that i just host it on a free service.. like 3owl.com or SourceForge.net ;)

You mean google sites?
No but the Google Index ranking of a Pancake site , how effectively that site can be searched in Google .

DataLife wrote:Why not use dropbox?
What about Copy (referral link) ? Offers more space than Dropbox (easy 20 gb) and supports direct linking (a tricky one though) .
joedf wrote:well from now on... im using Pancake.io with dropbox. ;)
Pancake.io looks to be the easiest website creation tool currently ! What do you think about how Google responds to Pancake sites ?
Blogger really sucks :x

I think a main reason is that imgur is easy, minimal ads, direct links and they have a wide support of countries (if not all). Other services restrict to just the UK or US or Europe+US and nowhere else.
Things like Dropbox, afaik, require your pc to be on at all times for others to access and view the files.
There are also permanent hosts (some free, some not) like http://www.solidfiles.com/ that are a good alternative, but not as simple as a free, no signup "forever unless inactive" host.

Thanks very much, I had not explored attachments to forum messages before. This really should be the preferred method of attaching images.

sumon wrote:Or just make a script to view all your images every now and then. Voilá! :)
I was thinking more about viewing old posts and see the image gone and the original author of the post no longer active in the forum. Too bad there isn't a way the forum could host the picture.

Re: imgur

This is scary ... I have all my images on imgur.

To view stats like how many times an image has been viewed -
change the link like http://i.imgur.com/9qYhqQ1.jpg
to OR

Yes! You make very good point there! I guess it is simply because of the user's ignorance of these special rules... ;)
