Thanks just me, there is a pattern.

Status update.
T1 = Tor. It was ~500k to ~150k. Then I decided to block T1 completely, and now it's a 1m+ requests... this seems like a new attack vector.

Code: Select all

T1 1,014,484
United States 538,612
Germany 288,547
United Kingdom 152,635
Russian Federation 121,986

Again (same time as 2 days ago).

I just added a cloudflare firewall to block all T1 (tor) connections. These lag spikes seem be from unusually high number of requests at certain times of the day.
For the moment, I simply monitor the graphs.

The forum is very slow again. Is anyone actively working on the issue?

Very slow again 6:47 am (Japan time).

I seem to see more problems in the late evening and (mid-)night hours (middle european time), like still now, than during the day.

Yes, I'm not sure why... We reduced it but seems to still be happening every so often...

Still bad with 522 errors from cloudflare.

The forum loaded smoothly this morning. Thanks for the hard work looking after it.

we still have some intermittent spikes...

@boiler thanks, I've turned off the Under Attack mode. :+1:

Same here. I've literally never had to do Captcha ever on this site...

Hopefully, might the issue apply to other areas?
Related? This now pops up in Chrome for AHK pages at base index or root, also search
Confirm Form Submission:
The page that you're looking for used information that you entered. Returning to that page might cause any action you took to be repeated. Do you want to continue?
Any subforum pages don't get it. Happens for some other sites, too.

Looks like we might be impacted by this: https://status.digitalocean.com/incidents/klwg8kjjr8hg
This issue appears to now be resolved. Hopefully, this means the cloudflare settings can be returned to their previous levels.

Thanks for your efforts, as always. :salute:

We are suspiciously getting a lot of requests from Tor...

Whenever I have problems visiting sites it always seems to be related to cloudflare.
I've noticed that too.
It could also mean that cloudflare is working and that otherwise the server/website might have crashed already without it.
Maybe. But also seeing 522 errors, "...indicates that Cloudflare is unable to reach the origin web server and the request times out..." When webservers are behind Cloudflare, these connection errors seem more likely.

However, understand that you guys are in a plus versus minus situation and are trying to troubleshoot what's going on.

It could also mean that cloudflare is actually working and that otherwise the server/website might have crashed already without it, under an attack.

It's not that cloudflare is perfect, but the alternatives don't look very attractive. Especially, as long as the actual problem is not reliably identified yet.

For me, it working better now. I don't get timeouts anymore, although the forum is certainly not very fast. But I can work with it.

On the other hand, cloudflare is definitely differentiating between IPs and other factors. So, people might be affected by it in different amounts.

I am probably lucky, I haven't had to solve a captcha once and I only see the waiting page after some inactivity. But skipping cloudflare wouldn't be a good idea, imho. If they have a temporary problem, what should we do? Expose us completely? During a supposed attack?

Yes, it is very slow for me as well.

Cheers!

Are you guys sure the previous slowness and loading problems have nothing to do with Cloudflare?

Because right now, I guess because of the "Under Attack Mode" getting the AutoHotkey website is really troublesome. Cloudflare is demanding cookies and JavaScript, while taking these long periods of time to analyze. Then comes the barrage of Captcha, sometimes over and over. After going through all that, the AutoHotkey website is still loading pages slowly. Wondering if there was something going on with Cloudflare in the first place.
