Controlling Gmail settings?

What would be the best way to use AHK to change a setting in Gmail running in a browser? Either Chrome or FF ESR. I want to be able to toggle Conversation Mode on and off. I could make a script that clicked on screen coordinates and waited for next screens to load. But is there a less brute force wa...

Simulating a right Ctrl key

Hello and Happy New Year! I will soon be using a Surface Pro 4, which does not have a right Ctrl key. Would AHK let me set up the combined right Alt key, with the Menu key, so that when those two were pressed together, along with another key, e.g., a 'c' key, it would result in a Ctrl-C being passed...

Re: Stopping a service

Thanks for these replies! Am I running as admin? I'm signed in with full admin privileges, but I'm not running AHK or this particular script "as Admin", at least not explicitly. I will try out the above suggestions, and update results! I want to easily shut down windows update in W8.1, which has sta...

Stopping a service

Hi. I'd like to use hotkey to stop a service, without any prompts, confirmations, etc. In W8.1. I've done a search, and have found a few theoretical solutions, but none of them are working. Everything I've tried, based on what I've found, is along these lines: ^!+x::run net stop "wuauserv" and ^!+x:...

Re: AHK failing under Windows 10

My condolences.

One of the things that will continue to keep me from Windows 10 is concern that AHK will be undermined.

I increasingly feel that we are well into the twilight days of user customization and configuration.

Long live AHK and what it represents.

Re: Close a Firefox tab programmatically?

Just a bump. I'm also wondering if AHK can be of use in controlling Firefox tabs. Increasingly I find that FF responds inconsistently to Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab, which let you switch forward and backward between the last two tabs. That has always been a problem with certain kinds of content (eg....

what about this? !s:: Input, key, L1 if (key = "s") msgbox, you pressed Alt+S and then S else if (key = "x") msgbox, you pressed Alt+S and then X ;//etc return Thank you. This works nicely as written. But when I comment out the first msgbox, and put in the commands I want to send, it immediately se...

Two-part hotkey

I would like to create a hotkey where a key combination is pressed, but nothing happens unless and until another specific key is pressed. Basically, the equivalent of what in Microsoft Word would be a macro trigger like: Alt+s,s I know that's possible, or at least I think it is, but I'm not seeing h...

Re: False error indications in Notepad++

So then it was a Notepad++ glitch in how it was parsing the AHK code, even though the code itself was fine? Interesting. Now after doing that, the "{RIGHT 1} ; " is in red. But I see those anomalies from time to time and they also seem to be peculiar to Notepad++, and not a problem with the script i...

False error indications in Notepad++

I have these simple hotkeys. They work. But when the last one is un-commented, even though the script still loads and the hotkeys work, all of the code that follows turns red in Notepad++, as though there is a error somewhere. I understand, more or less, why that is happening (there's an implicit op...

Amazing. AHK is simply amazing. (Never used a tilde hotkey before.)

Thanks so much for the replies and the insight.

Re: Dismissing system tray notifications

Thanks for the repies. @lexikos: Your line of code was just what I'm looking for. I wasn't aware that right clicking or Ctrl clicking a notification would close it. Is there any downside in implementing it as follows, using the Escape key as the hot key, and including {Esc} itself as part of the scr...

Touchpad control - extraneous clicks, etc?

Are there any AHK tricks for dealing with inadvertently touching the touch pad? I've got a Synaptics pad.

I have found one simple little app that does this (touchpad-blocker.com) and it works, but not well enough.

Can AHK do this?

Dismissing system tray notifications

Can an AHK script dismiss a system tray notification, instantly, without it fading? There's a TrayTip function where if all params are omitted "any TrayTip window currently displayed will be removed." But that's not working as I would expect it to. I'd like to be able to swat notifications dead in o...

Re: Pinning a shortcut to script to the Windows 8.1 Start sc

Thanks for the clarification. That did it. Finding the various locations of the Start up and and Start Menu and keeping them straight has always been a pain in Windows, but Windows 8.1 seems to have taken it to a new level. I'd been using W7 until a couple of months ago. The Start screen is actually...

Re: Pinning a shortcut to script to the Windows 8.1 Start sc

Thanks for the reply. There must be something I'm not getting. The only two Start Menu locations I can find are at C:\Users\username\Start Menu , which I'm completely locked out of (even though I'm the names user and I'm logged in as an admin.) and at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu, whe...

Pinning a shortcut to script to the Windows 8.1 Start screen

I would like to pin a shortcut to an AHK script to the Start screen in Windows 8.1 (the screen that first comes up with the Win key, not the Apps sub-screen.) I found one thread about this on the old forum at http://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/114341-pin-ahk-to-start-screen/ but the solution -- t...
