Fast_And_Pleasant_Taskbar_Toggle() - toggle win10 taskbar the way you toggle tabbars in say firefox

(a link to a video can be found at the bottom) This simple function allows you to toggle win10 taskbar in a way that I find extremely pleasant and seamless. The typical way to do this is by defining a hotkey that alternately calls WinHide and WInShow on "ahk_class Shell_TrayWnd". There are 3 problem...

AutoHotkey detects WheelUp/WheelDown everywhere except in Chrome - solution?

Basically, when I try to scroll up/down in most other applications, WheelUp/WheelDown shows up in Key History, but not in Google Chrome. I uploaded a video demonstrating this behavior (https://gfycat.com/ClumsyMemorableBudgie). The window on the left is Sublime Text; Chrome is the maximized window i...

hotstring X (execute) option doesn't work for sending anything containing accents (Autohotkey_L)

Version Number: 1.1.29.01 Problem: when I turn on the X (execute) option, usually I can put "Send ___" immediately after the hotstring with no linebreak & return and have this trigger the execution of a Send command rather than text replacement. However in the case where what is being sent contains ...

Re: FindText - Capture screen image into text and then find it Topic is solved

edit: please ignore —— i misunderstood what the script does it just occurred to me there's an excellent use case for this script. i've been working outside in the park the last couple of days (thanks to a really capacious laptop power bank i just got recently) and noticed that the fresh air and sun ...

a reliable method to get number of chrome tabs (e.g. to prevent closing window on closing last tab)

this is the only method i've found that (i) is consistently reliable and (ii) gives a pretty pleasant user experience (and so is superior to all the chrome extensions i tried, which all involve rather annoying and distracting user experience, e.g. by automatically creating a new empty tab when you c...

what are some cool *shortcuts* (not scripts) you've designed with AHK that makes you proud?

by which i mean, loosely, a shortcut that makes you think 'damn! that was pretty clever of me!' for having come up with it. here's the most recent one by me that gave me this feeling. just copy this into your main script: #if (A_PriorHotkey="wheelup" && A_TimeSincePriorHotkey<200) tab::send ^{home} ...

Re: WinSpy - Window Information Tool

if you use sublime text and want to quickly get a list of its wm_command message codes, you can use winspy's menu viewer (the menu id on the 3rd column is the wm_command code). it's really handy

a simple function to create anonymous time-sensitive hotkeys that expires after a while

i have a hotkey that displays the color of the pixel under mouse in a tooltip. sometimes i want to then load a browser to find the most appropriate english name corresponding to the color. here's a video of what i mean: https://my.mixtape.moe/pziden.webm seems to me it would be wasteful to create a ...

Re: what are some ahk programming mistakes that tend to 'fail silently' with no warning and took you a long time to catc

i do that too, although i've come to like the fact that ahk doesn't use equality for assignment. my biggest gotcha with '=' (or perhaps really it's with the 'if' construct?) is that for a long time i wasn't accustomed to the fact that, in the code below, only the 1st 2nd and 4rd msgbox will appear. ...

Re: Dock - Attach a window to another

this is great! i tinkered with it a little bit and it seems possible to create two separate docks without needing new FuncObj and InitDock variables. Just reusing the old variables seems to work. dock_this_to_that(_this, _that){ AttachHwnd := _this MainHwnd := _that InitDock := new Dock(MainHwnd, At...

What about parameters? Just wondering which emojis used for.
it depends on the type. i use (had to post an image because emojis forum doesn't accept emojis):

etc.

this is awesome. thanks for sharing this tip!
when i posted the above i actually didn't realize that you can *activate* the window you see through the hole and select text etc (that is, activate it without destroying the hole). it's even more useful than i thought!

Re: ListGlobalVars_and_also_print_arrays()

well, not really ... speaking for myself at least emojis are great as variable names. they really help visually set apart variables from other things. so it's more for readability than anything else. poop is used as the name of all return values in functions because poop is the .. output of the body...

ListGlobalVars_and_also_print_arrays()

this wrapper function returns a big string that is (i) what you see in ListVars (ii) interspersed with info about the innards of all the objects/arrays (by default, ListVars will give you things like "global_var[Object]: 0x00000000027657B0" when it encounters an object) it assumes you have lexico's ...

thanks for the nice utility. here's a reasonably faithful reenactment of a recent situation where i used winhole to peek at a (auto-refresh) file that lists of the current content of important global arrays https://my.mixtape.moe/kmpnfe.webm a user experience observation: i find that i use this much...
