Good practice about other's code updates or re-use?

I'm new to open source and collaborative programming and I'd like to have your advice on Do and Don'ts about publishing changes or addition to other forum user's code. I believe it is better to have the OK from the original script's author before publishing fixes, changes or additions to his script....

Re: CSV Buddy Beta - freeware sources on GitHub and compiled

After months of development and alpha testing (many thanks to alpha testers!), I just released the first version of CSV Buddy v0.8.0 BETA. I confident it is quite stable. But, of course, more users will help improve the app. Thanks for using the app, commenting, reporting bugs or reusing the code, a...

CSV Buddy Beta - freeware sources on GitHub and compiled

CSV Buddy is a freeware app written in AutoHotkey v1.1. It helps you make your CSV files ready to be imported by a variety of software. You can load files with all sort of field delimiters (comma, tad, semi-colon, etc.) and encapsulators (double/single-quotes or any other character). Convert line br...

I had the same question (which version to use under what circumstances?). Thanks for the script update and info.

Re: #MaxMem: How much is too much?

Yes! Just found the reply from jNizM to a similar discussion on the old forum. Exactly what I was looking for.

With this, no need to Try/Catch. I'll remove the #MaxMem restriction and test if enough RAM is available before loading a file in a variable.

Thanks!

Re: #MaxMem: How much is too much?

Good points, Lexikos. Then, I could spot in my code the commands that could make the script reach the "Out of memory" limit and use Try/Catch to return a proper error message to the user. Are the Try/Catch very processor intensive if inserted in a very critical section of a script? If yes, instead o...

Re: #MaxMem: How much is too much?

FileRead already ignores #MaxMem and just reads the whole file into a variable. Hum... That's good to know. Thank you for this info. Of course, if I read a file bigger than available RAM, the script will break. If you're really worried about coming across a huge file that would exceed your RAM, try...

#MaxMem: How much is too much?

My program process a text file. Part of the process is more efficiently executed with all the content of the file in one string variable. This is the only large variable in the script. To allow processing of files larger than 64 MB, I need to increase the maximal variable size using the #MaxMem inst...

Re: Maybe a hall of fame and Libaries section

+1 for some sort of tagging of posts in Script / Lib section.

Maybe something like this (don't know if it runs on the version of phpbb we have here)?

Still get only the Select all link. The script is installed and enabled. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious?

Re: Codebox Tweaks for Subsilver2 style

Looks great. Bu I only see the SELECT ALL code in the example above.

Do I need to install the 178963.user.js script? If yes, Chrome refuse it for security reasons (telling this should be made available from Chrome Web Store).

Re: The First Step

Great move. What a breakthrough! I understand the reasons why you made this move quickly and I appreciate this. Being an IP.Board admin, I would have prefer to stay with this software (if it could be well managed). But I'm sure phpBB will be a good platform for our community. About Tank's idea to lo...
