Great responses, cheers. Yeah, for better or for worse, ... for AutoHotkey, I've agreed to indentation.

Re: FileSelectFile, add controls to the Open/Save As dialog
I should explain about the Encoding box (although you personally probably know this): - In Notepad you open/save one file at a time. - At the Open prompt, when you select a file, the Encoding box updates with the file's encoding. This doesn't happen on the Save As prompt. - If you change the Encodin...

Re: FileSelectFile, add controls to the Open/Save As dialog
Indeed the 2 additional controls are there inside notepad.exe (the XP version) as a resource. And similarly in C:\Windows\System32\en-US\notepad.exe.mui for Windows 7. I've made my dialog able to handle window resize. I've also made the 2 additional control sizes/positions relative to controls alrea...

DetectHiddenWindows bug?
Possible DetectHiddenWindows bug? When I run this script, the MsgBox says that A_DetectHiddenWindows is 'Off', even though it is set to 'On' in the auto-execute section. It shows 'Off' the first time, but 'On' on subsequent occasions. It appears that placing 'DetectHiddenWindows, On' again, just bef...

Re: Making IfElse statement do nothing
He probably just needs to remove the word 'return', because 'return' in that line ends the subroutine. I think this is an interesting question, because sometimes when I'm writing code, I do an if/else statement, and I want one part to temporarily do nothing. I might use 'Sleep 0', but is there a bet...

This is very good, many thanks qwerty12. send keys to a GUI window/control without causing beeps (+ the standard way to define an AHK GUI hotkey) Topic is solved
How can you send keys to a GUI without causing beeps? E.g. if you send Ctrl+D to the window in 'Simple text editor with menu bar'. Available here (the example at the very bottom of the page): GUI https://autohotkey.com/docs/commands/Gui.htm#Examples then it triggers a beep. If you try this on Notepa...

FileSelectFile, add controls to the Open/Save As dialog
If you do this:
FileSelectFile, vPath, % "", % A_Desktop, % "Open", % "Text Documents (*.txt)"
and compare it with Notepad's Open menu, Notepad's dialog has a Static control containing 'Encoding:' and a ComboBox next to it.
Is there a best way to do this in AHK?
Cheers.

Re: conversion logic, v1 = -> v1 := -> v2, two-way compatibility
@nnnik. Interesting comments re. performance. If you or anyone has any further details as to why arrays would be faster than variables, that would be interesting to read up on. You might say that variables are like walking, and objects are like running, and therefore you should never walk in your da...

Re: conversion logic, v1 = -> v1 := -> v2, two-way compatibility
@nnnik I've explained above the advantages of using 'StringSplit' for a small number of numbered variables (and a custom variant for named variables), over a numbered array. Btw I intend to use both arrays, and pseudo-arrays (of most likely fewer than 10 variables). There are some situations like th...

Re: conversion logic, v1 = -> v1 := -> v2, two-way compatibility
Some notes on keeping StringSplit in AHK v2, and a few other tidbits. @lexikos. Thanks re. the interesting information about cases where #MaxMem fails. Anything to keep a script secure is a plus, i.e. not affecting the system or files in an adverse way. I never use FileDelete in my scripts, only Fil...
