Re: create empty registry key

Thanks for the response.
In RegEdit, I *think* it shows:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
whether there is or isn't a value there.

Re: create empty registry key

Yes to some extent it doesn't seem that big a deal, then again, if someone else's software did that to my computer, I wouldn't be happy, and I always want to do things properly and rarely if ever cut corners. Anyway I'm working on sharing my collection of literally over a thousand functions, and if ...

create empty registry key

Is this the best way currently to create an empty registry key? If a lot of keys were created this way, would there be any disadvantages in the fact that a value is created and deleted each time? Also it currently uses a REG_SZ, would it be better to say use a REG_BINARY or a REG_DWORD? [EDIT: it se...

Re: opinions on Stack Overflow

@guest3456, not saying that I disagree with you, but I think it's going to be to quite hard to pin down anything I said on the forum that is particularly unreasonable. Especially compared to what they say, and their hyperbole, and their straw man arguments, or rather haystack monster arguments they ...

Re: opinions on Stack Overflow

Re: 'i think you should start listening', yes, I think the only constructive thing they've told me is check out UI Automation, which I will do eventually. I think by their standards almost every script we write in AutoHotkey is unacceptable in some way, which is somewhat of a problem. I will probabl...

Re: Starting to learn memory reading

Dll call is just ... there are dll files in C:\WINDOWS\system32, and they have loads of functions in them, that you call up and they do something. You just put in some numbers and you get something. And you have to specify the types. It only gets a bit fiddly when you have a struct, which is basical...

Re: GUI COMMANDS: COMPLETE RETHINK

@just me, yes that's a fair point, I really had no idea what people would say, so I thought I'd mention the idea and see what came out of it. guest3456's links, were very interesting as they do refer to the idea of a bold overhaul, and about concerns with what we have currently. It's only 8 days lat...

Re: opinions on Stack Overflow

I've had a torrid time at the Stack Overflow forum. People seem to want to *challenge* rather than answer the questions. 'If they don't know the answer, they don't like the question.' I've had some entertaining exchanges there, I've only been there for about 4/5 days, and I've learnt about a whole n...

Re: 259-char path limit workarounds Topic is solved

OK, turns out I did do the full folder loop too, yes, that was properly fiendish, especially as I have to make up programming paradigms as I go along, for not knowing them, for dealing with the hierarchies in memory. I can't vouch 100% for the accuracy of this script, and it was due to be checked ov...

Re: 4 options to change the current folder in Windows Explorer

OK, unfortunately still a problem if the folder has a # in the first 6 characters of any of the subfolder names. Is it possible to assign a special folder ID to the folder with the hash, and then put that into Navigate()?

e.g. shell:Desktop

[EDIT:]
Or perhaps IShellBrowser::BrowseObject with a PIDL?

Re: 259-char path limit workarounds Topic is solved

OK it appears shift+right click, Copy Path, on a long filename, returns blank. And Edit, Copy, and retrieve %Clipboard%, returns blank. Anyhow, in the FindFirstFile filename loop above you can retrieve the short paths as well as the full paths. EDIT: it may be that this script does not currently ret...

Re: 259-char path limit workarounds Topic is solved

Apologies, the script isn't up to my usual standards, I was planning to perfect it in the next few months. I'm not really an expert programmer, so it really takes it out of me every time I do something like this. I think it would be great if AutoHotkey could add long filename support, and alphabetic...

Re: 259-char path limit workarounds Topic is solved

I wrote a script for this I'll try and post it in a moment. For dealing with long filenames if you somehow acquire the short-form path, you can use that in AutoHotkey.

Re: 4 options to change the current folder in Windows Explorer

When I saw that Navigate couldn't handle hash, I was shocked,
but sure enough I replicated the error.
I thought I'd try the short form path just in case. It works!

Code: Select all

if vDir contains #
Loop, %vDir%, 2, 0 ;(0/1/2=files/both/folders, 0/1=recurse no/yes)
vDir := A_LoopFileShortPath

standard Windows fonts ... and images?

There is a useful list of standard Windows fonts in the help file. Standard Windows Fonts https://autohotkey.com/docs/misc/FontsStandard.htm Are there any candidates for standard Windows images? In particular, in order to demonstrate scripts that manipulate images. Some such scripts have depended on...
