Re: Good practice about other's code updates or re-use?

You can split hairs all day if you're so inclined. The act of posting your own code on a public bulletin board without any copyright or license also makes a very strong statement about how you expect others to use that code. To illustrate: in the US, there is a legal term called "expectation of priv...

Re: Good practice about other's code updates or re-use?

IMHO, the amount of credit given should be proportional to the amount of unaltered code used. So, if you rewrite an existing script completely, it's yours and you don't have to credit whoever you got the idea from*, though you may still thank them. If you modify someone's code and release it as a fo...

Re: Incorrect calculation of forum Signature size...

A regex to match all valid permutations of bbcode tags?... I shudder to think what a beast that would be.

I think the most bang-for-your-buck would be to subtract the length of all URL tags (regex: "\[URL=[^\]*]\]") from the total signature length.

Re: Looking for opinions on a library management script

Amazing! thanks again, hoppfrosch. I just scanned the libba trello board and it looks like SLIM is its spiritual successor. I have solutions for most of the questions discussed there that also apply to SLIM (e.g: versioning management, caching & local DB, version-specific dependencies). Questions ab...

Re: Looking for opinions on a library management script

Thanks hoppfrosch, that libba project does indeed overlap some of SLIM's planned functionality. It looks like maul.esel was going for a centralized database of AHK libraries. At this stage, I'm focusing on the client-side. What I have so far is an outline of the core functional requirements and a pr...

Re: Old Forum

It could be said that the CSS problems were fixed because this forum has received so much support from the core user base.

We all hope that things can be fixed, but before that can happen, Poly must admit fault... and that's hoping for an awful lot.

Re: Looking for opinions on a library management script

I have a tentative name for the project: Script Library Install Manager (SLIM for short). @MasterFocus: that is correct. If your source is on GitHub and you wanted to release a specific version of your project, your package manifest would specify a URL like "https://github.com/<user>/<project>/<comm...

Re: Looking for opinions on a library management script

Thanks for the feedback! It sounds like you would support a one-stop-shop for AHK libraries? Such an enterprise level solution is very ambitious at this stage of the project. I want library authors to freely choose whether to abstain, participate, or change their minds, so I wouldn't want to have au...

Looking for opinions on a library management script

One of my side projects is a script that (and this is the bare bones requirement) installs and uninstalls files in the AHK library folders. Naturally, only libraries that include a certain configuration file would be considered 'actionable' by this script. In no case would the script attempt to inte...

Re: « What's on your mind? »

So I was talking to somebody who claimed he did a lot of programming. I asked him what languages he knows and he said "Binary".... I just chuckled and stopped talking to him. You could have claimed that you wrote an operating system in unary... it's twice as fast as binary because it gets rid of th...

[Func] ADOSQL - wraps ADO for executing SQL queries (AHK-L)

This function uses an ADO COM object to connect to a database (e.g: SQL Server, MySQL, Access, or CSV file), executes a SQL query, then returns the query results (for SELECT statements). The connection string is probably the most vexing part of SQL. Fortunately, Google is your friend, you just need ...

[Script] Download Sheepdog - organize downloaded files

I use this script to organize certain types of files as I download them instead of letting them clutter up my downloads folder. For example, whenever I download a .torrent file, Download Sheepdog automatically moves the torrent file to a shared folder on another computer. It requires a little bit of...

Re: [Func] JSON-like (de)serializer (AHK-L)

So the generated json strings aren't useable in php scripts? I'm not sure what you mean... I don't know what php considers "usable". That disclaimer is there because I was annoyed at all of the other JSON libraries that claim (either directly or implicitly) to completely conform to the standard, wh...

The Ternary Operator ( x ? y : z )

Q: What is it?! A: The ternary operator is like an If/Else conditional, but packaged to fit inside an expression. What does it look like?! The ternary operator looks like a boolean expression followed by a question mark followed by something, then a colon and another something What is it used for?! ...

Re: Maybe a hall of fame and Libaries section

If a number of people are dedicated to being 'curators' of a wiki, I think it would flourish. A curator would actively solicit contributions and participate in reviewing topics.

While the previous wiki was operational, I wasn't really aware of it. Publicizing it would have made a big difference.

[Func] JSON-like (de)serializer (AHK-L)

This package includes two functions: JSON_FromObj takes an object and returns a string that expresses the object's contents. JSON_ToObj takes a JSON-formatted string and returns an object containing the structured data it represents.                 AHK-Lib-JSON.zip                 Also on GitHub Th...
