I like the idea, but how about a CBox (http://www.cbox.ws/)instead?! Like on budRich's webpage!
I find it mor calming to the eye, and it looks nice to my opinion
Or is it because Cbox does not update live? I don't know..

I think the IRC is already a good alternative and adding such thing would disencourage posting, as it's much easier and quick to simply ask for help using the shoutbox. I mean, perhaps most of us here probably wouldn't do that, but we gotta think about new users.

Yeah I know(Space Pirate Squirrels) but it's not good for awnswering questions (even though i like the shoutbox idea)

If you dislike answering questions on IRC... think of what will happen if we put a shoutbox.

I dislike IRC "helping" for the following reasons:
1. It's a mess dur to the fact that all people talk at once and there is no topic split.
2. Often offtopic (That's the reason I like IRC)
3. not memorized.

All of these can get solved with a shoutbox.

Seems like a ShoutBox that is constantly updating would make the forum appear "alive" "dynamic not static".

I am in favor of a ShoutBox. How can this get implemented?

Would it be on every page or just the board index page?

I say no to ShoutBox. I'm a member of another community which installed a box on the forum. Thread starts have decreased alot since, peolple are just fooling around in the box. Also i bet you that lots of newcomers will ask questions in the box instead of creating a new thread in AfH.

My opinion, again:
[1] About "Shoutbox only for Full Scripts section"... I see your point and I would support that kind of thing, but... newcomers WILL find that shoutbox and use it to flood it with questions, requests, etc. just like a "normal/general shoutbox". Don't underestimate this.
[2] "Keeping the topics clean" is not necessarily good, because many important/relevant/common questions could be asked on the shoutbox and we wouln't be able to index it - making search useless.

after much thought on the subject and reviewing the feedback. I think a shout box will more often be misused. There is now a link to the IRC post on every forum page and within the documentation. It is a better vehicle and the MODS already have their hands full keeping the boards clean and the irc channel clean.

MasterFocus makes the most important point that it is information shared and lost.

I do not intend to add this feature
