I find this general warning to be very handy to hunt for code leftovers inside a function body or lines belonging to the autoexecute scope but in the example above the error checking went beyond that.

It is intended. Stop using return, forget the concept of the "auto-execute section", and maybe read the documentation for Class Initialization.
