What is hkcmd.exe and Why is it Being Launched on Boot into Windows?

Post by Buddha Nature » 08 Mar 2022, 08:57

In Windows on install of AutoHotkey to the system this file is placed in C:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exe An entry to this hkcmd.exe is placed in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run So hkcmd.exe is launched on boot into Windows.

What is hkcmd.exe and what does it do?

Why is it necessary to have it launched on boot into Windows?

Ops! My mistake.

The 'value' in the registry was named "HotKeysCmds" and I assumed that belonged to AutoHotkey. Turns out it doesn't. The registry value and the exe file actually belong to Intel: https://www.google.com/search?q=hkcmd.exe

Apologies for the confusion.
