I just realised now that I've never been in the gaming forum before, both on this domain and the other one. It was always just there and I never thought about it until I saw the mention of AutoIT in the docs (credits) and wondered what the heck that was, so I ddg'ed it. AutoIt's fora are super strict about nothing "gaming related", locking threads for the most minor of infringements to this rule.

(They also seem to have some vendetta against AutoHotkey for some reason. I searched for "AutoHotkey" and every mention that came up was somebody saying to somebody else who wanted help on a gaming-related script, "Why don't you go here--they don't mind cheaters, liers, thieves," and all sorts of other hate comments. Wonder why?)

A fair tip to give to new autoIT users definitely is to never ever mention autohotkey in anyway to them.
Most of them are all ahk-haters..

All I know is what I read on Wikipedia, which is not much. What's the story behind it all, or is this some taboo subject?

(By the way, I edited AHK's Wikipedia page and added ahkscript.org as a secondary "Official website" and labelled the other one as "(original)".)

It appears my edit was undone by somebody. In the Talk page there is a section about this and how this domain is a "fork" of the autohotkey.com which is supposedly the "official" website. The thing is, it can't be explained quite like that because how do you define the definiton of "official"? The developer of AHK (lexikos aka S. Gray) has pretty much abandoned the other website apart from posting updates, so wouldn't this be the official one?

The vast majority of scripts/requests in the gaming section are for automating things in games, even to the point where a script is playing the game for you without you even being at the computer, gaining experience or ingame wealth. In online gaming communities is seen as an unfair advantage over everyone else who isn't using scripts.

From my personal experience in such an online game, those who search for and use such automations tend to be younger, more immature, and there is a higher chance that they are also involved in other distasteful activities, such as scamming other players for ingame items. Ironically, Polyethene (Admin of the old forum) is also the admin of http://www.powerbot.org, a website that specializes in cheating the same game I play...his treatment of the AutoHotkey community and forum does not surprise me in the least, knowing his involvement in such affairs.

It's not surprising to me that AutoIt community doesn't like gaming requests, and I even agree with them. Personally, I try to avoid the gaming section/gaming requests.
