Cue the hoards of people on the other site asking "why can't I use arrays/COM/anything1.1!? :("

If I understand correctly, the recent releases of AHK are no longer '_L' but AutoHotkey so there shouldn't be no distinction between them and 'Basic'.

Correct. For a while now I've been correcting people who say "AHKL". It's now simply "AHK" or "1.1+" or "AHK 1.1"
"AHK Basic" refers to AHK 1.0 and all its versions (like 1.0.48).
rawr. fear me.

I cannot believe that the download link was placed accidentally. It seems that nobody is working with poly on behalf of the community but still for poly and his own interests. It might be time to make a decision. (BTW: 'the home page is sexy no one can argue')

After seeing Poly's new front page and rolling my eyes, my thoughts turned to my own contribution to the community.

I rarely post outside of support. Not to ask questions though, only to answer. I have little patience for simple requests, like how to create a hotkey that sends keystrokes in a loop. I tend to look for more interesting things that may be at the fuzzy borders of my knowledge that I know can be figured out in a short period of time. My motivation is mostly personal knowledge gain, the good feeling of helping someone is secondary.

It's to the point that most of my scripts are just snippets of code I used to test something to answer some support question. The one thing I've contributed to the scripts section was written for a support question and only posted at the request of support user who asked for it. I've written a few libraries for personal use, but nothing that hasn't already been done before and mine isn't a significant improvement over the existing ones to warrant posting.

I'm at university studying computer science, which exposes me to other programming languages and an absurd amount of theory and algorithms. I've read most pages of the AHK manual so many times that I have sections memorized. I'd like to think that I am one of the more advanced users, yet I feel I've contributed very little overall. I have a few ideas, but they may just end up half finished like so many others...</thought dump>

Side note: It bothers me that Polyethene is basically a ghost admin who swoops down every few months to make a major change to the site, without warning or explanation. What fun new users will have when they find half of the scripts on the forum don't work with AHK Basic. I don't really see why he insists on keeping control of the site at this point...

Writing and releasing is not always the best way to contribute. I do the same thing sometimes... I go on stackoverflow to find interesting questions, etc... But, I do remember that one time you helped be, and I was very glad that finally someone would help me. http://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/9 ... ntry608910
I sorta get what you meant but, still without your help, I would have never got it working. IMO, you have greatly contributed to the community. You contributions were directly through the forums.
Also, I have absolutely no idea why poly is being such a poly. :P I guess some people just never change. Once power crazy, always power crazy.

I don't use AdBlock Plus. I instead block advertisements and other kinds of malicious websites by editing the HOSTS file. The best part about it is that it's system global, and it doesn't depend on which program you're using to access the Internet.

That'd be nice if I was for blocking all ads on all sites, but I always disable ads on sites I support, such as cookie clicker and reddit

I was considering putting together a hosts file script a while back but then started using adblock plus.
I'm now wondering, would editing the hosts file block for video ads ( adblock plus does ) ??
Just wondering...
