I often marvel at the true pioneers of this industry. Dennis Ritchie; Douglas Englebart. We are still 50 years later using a version of the OS Dennis co created, written in a language he created to implement the interface that Douglas Englebart conceived and demonstrated in 1968. WE have only improved the graphics.
before anyone comments about speed, watch the entire "mother of all demo's" Even then connected to a main frame the interface was seamless, responsive, and incredibly useful. when you consider how far we havent come its depressing. There really haven't been any clever NEW ideas. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs really were just great at marketing. The idea for the ipad came from Star Trek next generation no matter what that meglomaniac claimed.
My comments are not meant to open a debate on if there have been new ideas. we could easily debate this forever. but if watch "mother of all demo's" it becomes obvious that the statement that "Everything we program is just a re invention of something someone else has already done"
Let me state that from a computer standpoint it is my view that these 2 lesser known geniuses basically created the wheel and fire figuratively for the computer world.No other software ideas have been built upon so heavily or become such an integral part of daily life. ( it could easily be argued that the crystal radio ushered transistors and eventually micro chips ) but those were not the consolidated works of any one man
We are troubled on every side‚ yet not distressed; we are perplexed‚
but not in despair; Persecuted‚ but not forsaken; cast down‚ but not destroyed;
