Hey guys,
We already have such a thread for the German language, but I didn't find one for English.
Let me ask the first question.
Situation 1: The match hasn't started yet.
Person 1: I'm the better player.
Person 2: You wish you were.
Situation 2: Match is over - Person 1 lost
Person 1: I was the better player.
Person 2: You wish you... ?
How would I have to write the last sentence?
Cheers!

Re: English grammar thread
AFAICS, 'You wish you were.' would work for both.
A bit of a mean-spirited conversation!
Also, you could use 'You wish.' for both.
But these sorts of questions are always tricky, and tend to benefit from more than one response.
(I wasn't sure if this thread was literally what it said it was, cf. this:)

Re: English grammar thread
Thanks.
Yes, "You wish" should be fine as well.
What about, "You wish you had been?" for sentence 2?
Or does this sound uncommon/non-native?
P.S. The thread might be suitable, yes, but I think many guys could benefit from an extra English grammar thread
Cheers!
