Looking for USB-Boot Manager (for Windows)

06 Aug 2021, 08:37

Hello,

I replaced the internal hard drive of a tablet (cloned it before), but it does not boot Windows 10 anymore.
Inside of BIOS I can't see the new hard drive, even though its standard is the same (SSD M2 S-ATA).

When I wanted to install Windows 10 (using Media Creation USB), it finds the HDD and shows its correct size.
But I was unable to install it, because it did not let me format it.
I also tried Shift+F10 and diskpart, clean and other stuff - without help.

Perhaps this tablet has some kind of protection which only allows hard drives from the tablet manufactorer (Teclast).
With a boot manager, running from a USB stick, I might trick it.

I created a Hiren's Boot CD USB stick, but apparantly it does not have a real boot menu?!
Instead, if only starts a Windows 10 which is on the USB stick.

Any help will be appreciated!

Best regards

Hi and thanks for your quick reply.

Yes, I know this tool and used it a while ago to create a bootable USB stick (which consists of 2 partitions).
But I'm not sure if I expressed myself clearly:

I need some USB boot device only for help to run my installed Windows which is on an SSD.
I'm not actually looking for a "USB Windows".

Also, what exactly are you meaning with "Change Partition / Target system (reinstall needed)" ?

Apparently a direct boot does not work, so I need an "Indirect boot".

PC boots USB Stick.
USB stick boots HDD.
:)

Cheers!

Thanks, whatever I tried, it did not work.
I sent back the SSD and bought another one for my other device (laptop) and there was no issue.

On the tablet it didn't work.
It was not even shown in bios even though windows found it during install menu, but refused to format it.

Looks like that tablet had some "protection".
Stay away from Teclast if you plan to do an SSD upgrade.

Cheers!
