lol i have the equipment if i need cheap dedicated but the business connection from isp is like 130 a month here..

Finally, I have now just enough for the most expensive registrar plan. I will still explore cheaper options. I suppose if there is excess i need to decide if i should persue dedicated servers or ssl. not having SSL is very scarry to me because its so easy to catch logins with port scanners and man in the middle.

Who-is masking (Privacy Protection/Private Registration) is separate...

"Business Registration provides more prominent visibility on your domain name's Whois listing by letting you add a logo, business links, images, business hours, coupons, and even a local map that highlights your location." Source: GoDaddy.

Tank, is there any chance the donation link is placed in a more visible place? (separate topic / main page). I had trouble finding it / didn't know that the email address is all the data needed.

Usually I was just clicking on the link that looked like this:

"lol i have the equipment if i need cheap dedicated but the business connection from isp is like 130 a month here.."

Yeah it is too expensif with popular USA solution, I tried to investigate yesterday, that why I spoke about 1&1 to host, xor cheapname to regritrar.
If you are curious, in France cities fiber is less than 50$ per month (same price for SDSL, and around 50Mbs). Add to this your old 5years computer electic consumption and you will have a home server for 60$ per month. However they aren't security in your home and no emploies will reboot your server if it crash during your night or during a blackout (secondary battery or engine generator), also server are at big bridge fiber location and you save a lot of ping time to everyone. In other word, a thing 2 time more efficient than a home server, now all serious compagny offer SSL and a free linux distrib choice, with extra admin web tool if desire...

But again do as you wish, I had a friend who worked in a big server room, we spoke a lot about advantage.

your contributions are all over. not every contribution to this site is monetary. and money alone doesn't make a site.

Oh, ok, maybe I missunderstood, if your doubt was about SSL during the buying, just write https:// at begin for https://www.namecheap.com or https://www.1and1.com , else open putty (or kitty) for a SSL with a dedicated server. Also by default in many linux FTP server there is a SFTP (SSL root login), or for example need to change 2 lines in debian 7.0 with proFTPd

lexikos wrote:I googled "godaddy 5 year pricing", and half of the first page of results seemed to be articles recommending people avoid GoDaddy.

It seems I can only view their Australian site, with Australian pricing. The bundle of ahkscript.org/com/net/info for 5 years with privacy protection appears to be around AU$460, which is currently about US$440. With "Business Registration" (which is of no use to us as far as I can tell) it is around AU$890. (Edit: I found the US$ option on their site, and it actually costs MORE in US$ despite the US dollar being worth more at the moment.)

By contrast, iwantmyname.com is around US$60 per year for the four domains or $15.50 for just ahkscript.org, and WHOIS masking is free. Their purchasing site is also much more straightforward and without hidden charges. I don't know whether you prefer GoDaddy for some reason, but I'd recommend you shop around a bit.
well i am so glad you told me about that site. when i called godaddy i got them to almost match it. I have used godaddy for a long time and its just familiarity that made me do it
i spent a total of $327.28. dns will update soon and i can redirect to ahkscript.org this weekend

we are the owners with this purchase of .com .net and .info as well.

I have funds from the donations to look at getting ssl next 5 years for around $360 I would like to wait and see how the server performance holds up. a hosting upgrade or dedicated server are within reach of our current funds and before i spend on ssl i want to ensure the hosting package performance meets our needs :D

EDIT: DNS is fast to update tonight all four domains are ready

http://ahkscript.org
http://ahkscript.com
http://ahkscript.net
http://ahkscript.info

We need a home page make over i like the logo but i suppose it should say ahkscript instead of AutoHotkey

Alibaba has found some more current reviews to add
I will be adding the answered button this weekend as well

I think that the alternate domains should all redirect to ahkscript.org for consistency. I noticed the other day that wikipedia and slashdot have .com and .net domains which redirect to .org.

Perhaps the same should go for http://www.ahkscript.org -> ahkscript.org. (www is totally superfluous, IMO.)

When I tried to post this on auto-hotkey.com, I got redirected and had to log back in. So maybe you're already working on it. :P

I have found it. I have also checked that there are no termites in the envelope (in case they would want to mutate with yours) :D

Some notes:
[1] the big image at the top of the boards still take the user to auto-hotkey.com (not sure if intended)
[2] didn't Alibaba find more reviews? (I only see two, and one of them doesn't even have a hyperlink)

just fixed 1
I will be editing the reviews on the home page this weekend
but perhaps now is a good time to explore a slightly different look. That is what i was suggesting. Not necesariyl that i am going to change the look but its a good time to see ideas and evaluate them fairly

Champagne !

WWW is a reminder of protocol and it was originally design for this very long time ago (www, mail, smtp, pop, ftp...), and it is not useless if we use other subdomain as documentation(doc)/download(dl)/archive/forum/%uploadaccountname% in futur. Now, at this day, www is like a index.html, a home subdomain... (also you don't see http:// only www in some browser)

SSL certificate is less than 10$ per years, I am not sure to understand. http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-host ... x?ci=84825 you picked the "economy" + a domain pack for test and we switch to "ultimate" if everything is good ? It is a money waste to don't start with the bigest or you will call for a good price ?

Anyway, long life to us !

i negotiate everything even the price of cheese ....

I may in fact upgrade the hosting package to include ssl. but its best to take ones time with these things. look at everything and then sleep on it and make the best approach
