I'm seeing the Unknown MySQL server host 'ahknew.db.9104519.hostedresource.com' (2) [2005] error nearly all the time when I'm logged in. Even got it when I tried to log out. I have better luck viewing the forum if I am not logged in. Tank mentioned this could be browser specific. It might be useful to mention the browser when reporting problems. I've tried Pale Moon 24.5 on two different computers with the same problems. Can anyone report a browser they are not having trouble with? Thanks

I doubt very much that the random slowness and server errors have anything to do with which browser you're using. The speed issues, at least, definitely affect Chrome 34, IE8 and Firefox 22 (on this XP system). When it happens, occasionally a page will still load quickly, but mostly not.

Right. SQL is a server-side problem not client-side. If it were a client-side problem, then we would see these same error messages on other websites too.

it is and unfortunately it seems to be a semi common problem for high traffic on shared hosts

Yes, it seems to be overall faster.

@tank: You're talking about a 'shared host' (i.e. a virtual machine). How much more would it cost to have a dedicated server?

Now it seems faster... But yesterday, it exploded for me... It was like the website never existed... I presume the website was migrated to
another server. So the DNS over here probably just got updated later... :P well anyways it's back online for me now :)

tank, you the man. ;)
I have to say : "tank you" :D hehe

Yes the ip changed so it was likely dns propagation.

Justme. The cost difference is substatial, about 130 ish per month that has to be paid a full year at a time. I have a bit of experience with this and performance wise we would need 2 servers to see long lasting improvement. Separate device for db and web services. Lets see how we do where we are for now first before jumping off a bridge. I was given a rather interesting idea for using ads and monetising a hidden replica of the site that can only be seen if the ip is one of the many we block from ddos and spam attempts. If I can make it work we might be able to use heavy spam activity to our advantage and build a funding mechinism

I'm imagining tank with an evil lough! I support this idea.
