@joedf, I'm tagging you because you seem to be the forum s/w administrator.
As you know, threads that have not been viewed since their last update are highlighted in the list. When I read a thread and just press the browser back button (on my mouse), I'm returned to the sub-forum, but the message is still highlighted. I either have to click refresh, or while in the particular thread, scroll to the bottom and click "Return to..." wherever I came from in order for the thread to de-highlight.
Is there a personal setting for this that I haven't been able to find, or is it just inherent in this particular forum engine? Can it be set up to auto-refresh whenever the back button is clicked from within a thread?
I'm sure I could create an AHK script to do that specifically when I'm on the forum, but if there was a global change, it might make it easier for everyone.
Forgive me if this has been asked and answered already, but I was not able to find it.
Russ
Refresh on back button possible?
Re: Refresh on back button possible?
I am assuming you are speaking of the web browser back button. If so, then the previous loaded state of the page is loaded by the browser itself for responsiveness and performance reasons (so the page is not "reloaded", "refreshed", or "recreated"). Thus, it may appear as though some links are visited or not depending on the last state of the page. This is a function of the web browser and not the webpage or forum software.

Re: Refresh on back button possible?
Thanks @joedf, I thought it might be a forum setting. It seems web scripts can detect all sorts of thing these days, like a popup begging you to stay when it detects your mouse moving toward the tab to close it, so I thought it should be a simple matter for a page to detect if it had been entered via the browser's back button. Apparently not, as a quick web search turned up a number of posts where people are trying to achieve the same thing, few with much success at all.
Thanks for responding, it looks like I'll be playing with my own script and see what I can come up with.
Cheers,
Russ
