Documentation and Google

08 Feb 2024, 03:09

For a little while now, the official AHK documentation seems to have vanished from Google's index. I used to pull documentation with searches like "AHK GuiFromHwnd", but that does not work anymore. Bing works fine. Does anybody know what has happened?

This should be fixed immediately. It seems to affect www.autohotkey.com entirely. @tank, could your recent changes be the cause?

Yep, noticed this too. Having to create my own browser bookmarks for each AHK topic. Didn't consider the possibility that the server change would cause this, but now that makes a bit of sense. Wow... I hope there is a way for google to bring the site back to the top of the list without the the normal time consuming process of "bubbling". That might take a while.

Yeah, looks like the custom search engine I had setup is also broken...

Forum results on Google are quite important. The forum search has less discoverability and more resource heavy. And reddit or stackoverflow are not nearly as informative than the forum.

I had made some rather aggressive bot prevention rules in cloudflare. I just eased them a bit.

Assuming tank's fix was successful, it may take several weeks for the pages to reappear in the Google search index. I would recommend checking the Google Search Console from time to time to see if the pages are being indexed correctly. Optionally, indexing can also be "forced" there.

So I guess that one way of knowing whether the Google search engine bot is back is to check the "Registered users:" line at the bottom of the "Board Index" screen.

Actually upon further investigation it seems to be related to the new servers. The server verification fails now

www.ahkscript.org is still not reachable or is not redirected to autohotkey.com, i.e. some old links are currently broken. Please fix it too.

AHK topics not searchable in Chrome?

24 Feb 2024, 01:50

Hi everyone

Long, long time.

Playing around with AHK again , it'll take some time to become re-aquainted :)

I'm searching for topics as I always did by typing in something like the following into a google search:

"AHK clear an edit control"

but nothing shows up in Google's search engine results anymore. It's just all reddit, stackoverflow, gtihub, etc but any topic here in the forums is not showing in google.

Is there something I'm unaware of as to why?

thanks..
