how do i delete notifications?

I have about 170 notification. I go to the user control panel, where there is a "manage notifications".

I mark them all READ. Then what? I am returned to the user control panel.

I go back to managed notifications, ankd they are all still there and they look the same as they did before I marked them read.

How do I delete them?

notifications dont get deleted, They only get marked as read.

They disappear after a certain time (from the notification area at the top, but not on the complete list in the control panel) after they were marked as read, I think... one day?
