Thanks, I'll look into that setting.

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
Thanks, gregster, I turned it off, although I guess it takes a while to kick in, as I've already received three quoted-you spam emails since turning it off.
Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
I've tried several times this evening to create a new topic in the Bug Reports forum, without success. Chrome reports a 500 error, and Firefox just gives me a blank page.
Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
Well I guess we'll just disable users editing their posts for now.

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
I think it is not good idea.
For example I very often edit my posts.
Why do not You want to forbid post images to forum by new users?

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
I think that is a very good idea and a user can still send a link to a picture if it is really very importand to understand his prob.
BTW little offtopic:
"... Russian groups like Fancy Bear led the way with a breakout time of less than 19 minutes, nearly eight times faster than their closest competitor, North Korea-based groups. ...
Breakout times -- defined as the speed with which an actor moves from gaining an initial foothold within a network to gaining broader access -- continued to shrink as threat groups hone their tactics..."

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
Oh I have to clarify - at first I wanted to lock the post editing for all users but now it's only limited for newly registered users - I dont know why newly registered users were able to edit their posts in the first place - it doesn't make any sense.
that being said without gregsters remark I would have never found out about that being the case. phpBBs Administration Control Panel is a disaster and I imagine hell is a place where you have to use that tool all day long.

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
I am trying to post in a thread and keep getting blocked (with a Cloudflare Ray ID). I've tried the Quick Reply box and the Full Editor & Preview. Both are getting blocked. There are no attachments in my post...just some URLs and BBCodes in text copied/pasted from my text editor. Any tips on how I can post? Going forward, perhaps we could create a whitelist with the usernames of known good actors. Thanks, Joe
Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
"registered users" should not be blocked in anyway. I don't mind blocking "newly registered users", just let's not be too restrictive. The ACP is most definitely a bit of a pain at times... :/
As for JoeWinograd being blocked, I am not sure why that's happening... Have any settings been changed? :/

In answering my own question, removing the URLs allowed the post (keeping the BBCodes was fine). Regards, JoeAny tips on how I can post?

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
Hi joedf,
Our messages crossed. My original post had included the URLs of a library published here and its authors (Sean, Cyrus, and Fanatic Guru). Removing those URLs (some to this site, some elsewhere) allowed the post to go through. Of course, posting without URLs is a pain (I guess we could use "colon", "dot", and/or "slash" instead of the characters...that would probably work, depending on how clever Cloudflare is). I still think that a whitelist of usernames is a good idea. Regards, Joe

Re: Recent spam, forum problems and some background information
Weird... I just checked the ACP, nothing is blocking URLs there... hmm You should definitely be allowed to use URLs.
Maybe tank knows something about this, custom code maybe?

The spammer is still doing his bait-and-switch technique, replacing his initial post. 27 minutes and ongoing.
I'll just ask again: more spam officers?

Maybe it matters where the URLs go. Here's a screenshot, if it helps:

There are more people, simply having problems to post code:

And I just tried to post, got exactly the same page. Didn't edit.
This is not good.

I can't even preview a post without triggering that page.
