Hi there!

I'm using this software to set different cursor speeds for my mouse and my trackpad. It was working fine with an older version, but since I last updated it it usually fails to recognise when I switch from one pointing device to the other (ie, it keeps on using my mouse's set speed when I start using my trackpad, and viceversa). Tried deleting the profiles and setting them again, to no avail. What can I do?

Thanks

PS: One interesting thing is that, when the app is applying the wrong profile, it kind of 'wakes up' and switches to the right profile if I just click on the windows task bar button that shows you the hidden icons (among which is EitherMouse's).

Thanks for the heads up

Hopefully its just temporary, sorry about that

there's a mirror you can use until it comes back up at:

The main site is hosted by someone who (generously) donated the hosting and space, sometimes its down for an afternoon, but I havent seen it down for days at a time like this

The above mirror is my old server, slow connection but should work

Hi there!

I'm getting a warning message from Windows 10 when running EitherMouse's installation file:

Image

In Spanish, that means "Malicious file. This app can harm your device..." etc.

Thought you'd like to know.

As far as I can tell this is another false-positive threat detection, its an ongoing issue that I normally respond to users with something like:
Thanks for the feedback, its a known and ongoing problem with antivirus software. Most will let you ignore the detection or add it to a whitelist. You can try reporting the false positive to your antivirus company, but I gave up bothering with that years ago as i never made any progress. To date, since first released in 2009, i have not once found an actual infection of any file from eithermouse.com... and if you run it through virustotal.com you usually get around 2 out of 65 false positives. Personally i assume 2 are wrong and 63 are right, but i guess thats for the end user to decide. I will double check that there are no infections currently and let you know if I'm mistaken. Someday I will buy the license needed to created "signed" executables that may (or may not) help with the false positives, but its not cheap. You can also try downloading EitherMouse.exe directly, or EitherMouse.zip and extract, and skip the setup program to see if that helps, or temporarily disable your antivirus software.

Edit: I see all or most of your posts are in this thread, so you may not be an ahk user. This problem is not isolated to EitherMouse, but it is a long term problem with AutoHotkey in general, which is a product of it being a very powerful scripting language, and some malicious users exploiting that. EitherMouse is not malicious in its function, but has the capability to be (a similar script with no way to restore mouse button functionality would be considered malware, and the executable would vary by almost nothing.

Thank you for clarifying that. I suspected that it might just be a false-positive warning, but needed to be sure. I've now installed it after clicking on Ignore the warning and install. Everything is ok so far.
Yes, I'm not an AHK user. I guess most EitherMouse's users aren't. Perhaps you'd want to prevent about the warning message at the download page - it's quite scary if you're unfamiliar with those circumstances you explain :)

Good idea, thanks, I will do that

Good idea. I've sent a report there in case it helps, and the result I've gotten is:

So, it seems they are not deeming it as malware anymore :)

Btw, I reinstalled the app thinking this might fix the issue, but it made no difference...

Sorry i skipped over this when you posted it... I think I know what your issue probably is and the fix is in my queue, but can you send me the results from "diagnostic mode" under the advanced menu

Also if you switch the tray icon to "number" you will more easily be able to see what mouse EitherMouse thinks is active. You might want to also try "clear all settings" and reassign the mice just in case, as well as "Run as Administrator" and see if that makes a difference

Hopefully we can solve it

All right. I tried clearing all seetings (and even reinstalling the app), no difference. On the other hand, running it as an Administrator might perhaps solve the problem, but I have EitherMouse in my Windows task manager's start list (as I guess most users do for convenience), and Windows won't open it by itself in such mode.

Now, here's the log from Diagnostic info:

Thanks... if its working when ran as administrator, you could try toggling on the "run as administrator" option in the advanced menu to force this, but depending on your setup it might ask for credentials.

You shouldn't need to be running as administrator, but there are restrictions on an un-elevated process communicating with elevated ones, not sure all the ins and outs of it but with some more feedback I'm hopeful we can find a solution

Are you on version 0.759 running in Windows 10?

Yeah, I would do that but the inconvenience with that is that Windows 10 (at least with the default settings) won't start the program anymore at Windows' startup if I toggle on that option - it would require the user to start EitherMouse manually every time.

Hi there! For whoever has the same problem as me: I finally managed to auto start EitherMouse as administrator by setting up a task at Windows' Task Scheduler (more info here).

I found the problem with latest version of EitherMouse (759) that disturbs me. Namely, I have 2 mice but app switches to Mouse3 as I press middle or X1,X2 buttons on any of them. Can be seen when EitherMouse window is open. It is a problem for me as I use mouse button remapper that remaps middle mouse button (in my case, middle button is the wheel), to double-click, and with EitherMouse running, it does not work for my left mouse - no matter if I assign double left or right click in the remapper, double RIGHT click is executed... I believe this is caused by app switching to Mouse3 when I press the wheel. Also I cannot compile the exe from ahk, when I run the ahk it creates the exe but it fails to run with "icon not found" error.

Sorry i havent fixed this yet. If you want to compile, leave the original EitherMouse.exe in place, then run EitherMouse.ahk and it will recompile using the original icons

If you want to fix the problem before compiling, inside WM_Input() add a if ThisMouse = 0, return before the Gosub MouseChange... This will make it ignore "software mouse", ie hotkeys and some hardware, ie mouse commands with device handle = 0

Edit: or just uncomment this:

Code: Select all

; If (ThisMouse = 0)
; Return 0
