[Tool] Color Picker Mini+

Here is a multi purpose tool I was working on that allows you to get and save any color from your screen.
It has other features as well but many of them haven't been fully implemented yet, but there is one that is somewhat complete and that is the ability to take screen shots of a selected region.

Before I go into what this does and how to use it i'd like to point out that this currently only works on windows 8 and 10 (windows 7 and older users can't interact with the controls).

Here is how to use it.

When you first run the script you will see a small blue rectangle. You can move it by clicking and dragging it.

That small rectangle is the compact mode. Right click it to expand the tool to full size as seen here.

Shrink it back to tab size by right clicking it again.

Color Picker:

To get a color from the screen. Press the "Get Color" button. (You can also press the "Settings" button, as there are no settings yet)
When you select a color, the color code (hex value minus the "0x") is automatically dumped into your clipboard for easy use in scripting etc.

To save a color for later use (including when you rerun the script), Hold "SHIFT" and press one of the 4 small buttons at the bottom of the window.

To use a saved color, press the "Get Color" button and get the color of one of the saved slots. That will dump it into your clipboard.

To take a screen shot of a selected area, press the 1st of the 4 bottom row buttons. (ATM shots must be taken from the top left to bottom right. I'll fix this later to allow any direction).

You can also take shots by pressing a hotkey (currently Numpad1, I'll move the hotkey to the top of the script before posting so you can change it to w/e you want). Pressing the hotkey will take a shot of the area you selected by pressing the 1st button.

You can cancel taking a shot by Right Clicking while setting the cap area.

Shots are saved with a file name of the current date and time (A_Now).

To view all the shots taken with this tool, press the 2nd button on the bottom row, doing so will pop up another window containing your shots (5 at a time).

You can scroll through your images by either clicking on the arrow buttons at the bottom of the window, or by clicking on the first 2 images or the last 2 images. You can jump 10 images at a time by holding shift when doing so. (A slider is planned, but not implemented).

You can delete a image by moving it to the center frame and then pressing it while holding "Shift" and "Ctrl".

You can copy the full path to the image into your clipboard by clicking on the center frame. (there are 5 frames, so the center is the 3rd one).

You can view a slightly lager version of the image by moving it to the center frame and hovering over it.

You can open the image in Windows Photo Viewer by holding "Shift" and clicking the center frame.

Use the sides of this window to move it.

To close the window, press the close button, or right click the window.

That is all that has been currently added in but there are a number of other planned features. A big one is the ability to draw on the screen as well as on saved images. I have already worked out a prototype for this and just need to add it in. (I don't know when i'll get around to it, the script not working on windows 7 hit me by surprise and has kind of killed my joy in this project).

The function for the last button on the main window is still undecided, so if you have a idea for it, do share.


Here is the current script. I spent some time commenting the code (I never do this, and I don't think that I'll ever do it again!).

What it doesn't cover is how to be a artist. I'm not a artist, don't pretend to be one, so I can't really teach anyone how to be one either.
I only really started playing around with using gdip once I made the bitmap maker, I had played around with it a bit in the past but found it very painful to work with when just using code so that's why I made the editor. It was really only the moment I had the editor working that I did much of anything with gdip, and I've still only done a few projects with it, so I'm still just getting my feet wet. Who knows what i'll be able to do with it in a year or two.

If you're interested in seeing how this is designed in the editor, here is the data to load the two windows in the editor.
