How to prevent Windows key from bringing up Start screen?

21 Apr 2016, 10:15

This is an exercise in information retrieval: I read the solution to this question here on the boards, but I can't find it anymore.

When I use the Windows key in combinations such as #f1, it always pops up the whole screen full of Metro icons, instead of just executing the commands of the AHK script. How to prevent that?

So this still pops up your start menu / metro screen?

Code: Select all

#F1::msgbox test
if so use $ to make use of the keyboard hook like this

Code: Select all

$#F1::msgbox test
or add #UseHook at the start of your script.

Thank you, Special Guest, the $ for the kb hook fixed the problem. Thank you also for the link to the manual; I really should have read that first.

For future reference: The problem was actually not with F1 - that works just fine without the kb hook, but with Volume_Mute, which is what my computer has instead of the F1 key, unless I press it in combination with Fn.
