Got a MS surface keyboard which is ergonomic and the is split into two separate independent specebars
Thinking I could get by with one continuing to act as spacebar, using the other to map a function
Any idea how I figure out whether AHK would allow me to differentiate this as it does with left control and rate control?
By the way this is the most comfortable keyboard for someone with incipient arthritis. Or full on arthritis. The action on the keys is like butter.
Split spacebar on Microsoft surface keyboard

Key history might tell you if they are actually generating different codes.
Kinesis Freestyle 2 is also a terrific keyboard. It has an adjustable split, three height settings, and low resistance. You can also separate the two halves if needed. It's durable. It has keys for cut, copy, and paste, plus Web forward and back, and delete on both sides. Insert, Scroll lock, and Num lock are accessed via the Fn key.
