autohotkey not working with certain apps as active window

why doesn't autohotkey work with certain apps as the active window?

i cant trigger any hotkeys with the following apps as the active window:

task manager
thinkorswim (java app i think)
gomplayer
everything (file search tool)

any way to get hotkeys to work with these apps?
