shutdown vs power down

I was looking at the Shutdown command and noticed there is an option to 'Power down' which is mentioned to "shut down the system and turn off the power". I looked online for differences but couldn't find any. Can anyone please explain the difference between this and a simple shutdown?

In this post, @mikeyww says that shutdown can cause the computer to just sleep, while power down will actually result in the computer powering off. Of course, you can try both and see what difference there may be for your computer.

Thanks for pointing this post out to me. I've already used the shutdown command in the past and didn't notice the pc going to sleep at any point but i just now noticed the power down command. I think i'll be using the latter from now on just to be safe
