Discussions about Autohotkey Livechat / Autohotkey IRC

05 Oct 2013, 20:46

I have question's about the IRC. Does it display your ip address publicly to the room? If so is there a way without using vpn's and proxies to give something a troll could not use? I am sure that it is a fairly safe place but trolls lurk everywhere. Any feedback would be appreciated, so thank you ahead of time.

Cheers!

@pointcloud
Yes your ip could be hidden i.e. cloaked.
The first channel you should join on IRC is #freenode and ask about any aspersions that you have
:) remember it is "tantalising".
I could tell the nicks that help like anything once you reach there (#auto-hotkey) (#ahkscript and #ahk)

Like smorgasbord said, you can go into #freenode and ask for a cloak, but you can also use tor/sasl.

You cannot cloak/hide IP/Hostnames if you connect to Freenode via webchat. (ie joining the #ahk channel from a browser)
If you have one, you must use a standalone chat client for the cloak to work.

**confirmed by Freenode staff**

#ahkscript on Freenode reports: "Only users using SSL could join this channel!"

Tried to click the pastbin link in the chat, got an error from my work firewall.

The link you are accessing has been blocked by the Barracuda Web Filter because it contains spyware. The name of the spyware is: Exploit.Host.usto

Just an FYI in case someone can take a look. Never got the error before today.

Update, looks like any us.to address is being blocked.

Hey guys, I'm trying to connect to the IRC but I'm getting an error where I need to identify via SASL to use to use the server.

Theres a guide on SASL for Libera here:
https://libera.chat/guides/sasl

However, to use SASL I have to register my nickname:
https://libera.chat/guides/registration

Problem is I apparently need to connect to the server first to register my nickname, but I can't connect as it wants me to identify SASL first.

Any help for someone noob with IRC?

Not sure if there is much activity on the IRC these days. But perhaps @tidbit can help.

idk about security. I use the plain/simple method of joining. but Libera doesn't need an account to join, afaik. can simply join/make a room. Some rooms DO require registered-only users though.

try using the webIRC link found here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=59
basic setup info in there too, for a proper client. Or use AdiIRC (and others) with preset lists where you simply choose one and it's done (but will need to swap crap out if you want SSL or w/e security voodoo)

to register an account with libera, type this: /msg nickserv help register

Thank you. I managed to get in through the weblink. Strange, when I tried it a week ago it came up with the same identify with SASL thing.

Oh well, no complaints :D
