Chinese and germans got their sub-forums, how about Russian?

22 Feb 2014, 08:40

subj
I mainly ask it because forum.script-coding.com is way less tuned for comfort than this forum.
Apart from that - there are quite b1tchy rules where you have to add "ahk: " to the topic's name, even though you already post to the ahk sub-forum.

...Or create thoses forums before we ask for create them, and make more readable the first page, we don't need moderator but to watch if there will be an activity, if that works then rules will come.
In normal way, non-english communities are too small for create or maintain a website, then we have to create a home for them, this is a role of a volunteers organization because for exemple never 20 russians will be there at same time to defend their rights and agree about a forum creation (but work at long-term, still visible on first page, just a small activity)...
Also it can be a chance to have more traffic, and create a trend inside a country against other scripting language... and a lot of scripts are specific of a language (hook, remap, hotkey, hostring, keyboard layout, unicode problem, etc)...

So, I am serious, a good start with the top ten of internet, 5 latin, 3 logograph, 1 cyrillic, 1 abjad
sample: http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats7.htm (very important, check the internet penetration for a real idea)
Else, you take ONU languages and you add "losers" of the second world war...
sample: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_l ... ed_Nations
Sorry for hindi, italian, turkish, polish, greek, etc...

--> Ohters Languages (to sort as you want, by unicode order, by importance,... )
-----> Deutsch (German)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> Español (Spanish)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> Français (French)
---------> Subforum: Demande d'aide (a kind of temporary use subforum, litteraly: "Ask for Help") , Scripts achevés et guides d'apprentissage (a kind of permanent use subforum, litteraly: "Scripts completed and learning guides")
-----> Português (Portuguese)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> 中文 (Chinese)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> 日本語 (Japanese)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> 한국어 (Korean)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> Русский (Russian)
---------> Subforum: // , //
-----> العربية (Arabic)
---------> Subforum: // , //

With this tree, the main board is clean and we can still acces in one click to a subforum of a specific language.
The display of this list (tree) take less size than german+chinese expanded forum on the main board page (one big box and one line for subforum... as we see the useless "gaming" subforum )
Also We don't need many sub-forums, two is enough (kind of temp and perma, and maybe a 3th for other speech and offtopic), otherwise it is ugly and unnecessary (too tiny traffic, don't do like the current splitted german forum)...

The Chinese sub-forum is very inactive. The sub-forum only gets activity when spammers go there.
I don't see why there should be another forum split.

It is not a "split", it is to add new things, to attract new users who can't make an english sentence...
It will take a lot of time to get a targeted new subcommunity and currently subforums are not famous (even english or this website), now there are only bilingual people who post specific scripts about their language or to have a better help or understanding because of barriere language...

Maybe bad comparaisons, but :
- Chinatown was only an house, and after that a street, and now an area, same schema in a lof of city and with different community...
- people never ask for create an italian or chinese restaurant, if they exist then they can go there, new taste or not, clients have the choice and the restaurant can be famous and bigger... and it is idiot to don't diversify the offer...

I think it wouldn't attract them. unless there were already a reasonable number of such users to spread the word.

It is like a snake eating his tail, if you don't start then you kill the chicken inside the egg...
That cost nothing to try and that clean the main page... and you already have users to spread the word... that take time and easy to fails, but I just argue and it is a political decision (direction, point of view about minorities)...

Even autohotkey.com was "inactive" at the beggining...
Which can also raise new translations (hosting space, feedback), or motivation for update...

Re: Chinese and germans got their sub-forums, how about Russ

I think your missing that your own argument is voided by the fact that the chinese forum remains mostly inactive. And i disagree moderators are necessary from day one. We just don't have the interested user base from within which to choose a MOD let alone justify the additional clutter of links. I am well aware that sites exist for these user base. but there are also likely geopolitical reasons to reject using this domain. I wont say anything against any of the forum admins if they choose to entertain this but I cannot find justification for doing it and therefore I wont.
My criteria for language support is simple. I need to see evidence that a user base actually exists AND I need an established trustworthy member that understands the language and culture willing to moderate it. I have neither in this case. with chinese and german i had both. As a site owner i bear a certain legal responsibility to at least try and ensure certain rules are adhered to. for instance if i put up any forum where just because i don't understand the language criminal actions are discussed and planned and i don't take certain steps i could be accused of supporting it. At least in america an accusation can devastate my professional endeavors. I also find i must look to the past. The site creator was very supportive of other ethnical groups and did not host more than german and english directly. I have to believe that if such a need were actual and real Chris would have observed it in the 8 years he carried the site. The fact that one user also speaks Rusky is still a user base of 0. At least if we were talking about french for instance i know i have at least one french user and someone i could trust to moderate it. As is true of spanish. if the link you posted http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats7.htm were any indicator Chinese participants would have long ago overtaken the german users.

If you only have these 2 suborums you could as well remove the Language subforums.
Where should I talk about the future of the forum with the people specific to that language? Where should I share tutorials? Where can we talk about unrelated stuff that makes this community so strong?
Zelio your Idea of subcommunities is missing the point of an community.

and maybe a 3th for other speech and offtopic
However I understand you, but it is like the current "V2" section, we only need one subforum because a good title is enough when we post. Also you can stick a tutorial list thread on "scripts" section.
Maybe "subcommunities" is not the good word, maybe my mistake, sorry, it is like european community (ex: the whole autohotkey users) who are in fact the european communities (ex: some german users never post in the english section, like a subcommunity, bilingue people will point to some wonderfull script if needed)... In other word, you miss "bridge" people, (english users group) ∪ (bilingue users group) ∪ (non-english users group) = AHK community, and (german/english bilingue users group) ∪ (german users group) = an AHK subcommunity (sub is not pejorative)

@Tank, Oh ok , very good argue, but for the end of your post:
- German users belong to an old community, we can see this as a cultural except, and long time ago I guess that a super german user gave a lot of time ( BoBo ? gave me history, I am curious)...
- It is not a joke but chinese are still on windows xp, imagine china situation when Chris started autohotkey.com, but they translated all the documentation... you can't see china like germany.

Aabout froggies:
- in France, what I saw was a war with autoit, the pandemic has been made by game or market or poker or admin network script, result is two losers...
- the only great active french user was "PhiLo" (very old member) but now I guess he is a modo of processing.org, result is to move out...
- one noob created a forum in 2009, and an other noob created a forum in 2011, cannot be found and not visible, result is a total failure...
- autohotkey.free.fr since 2006, I never know who have this website, small start of translatation, result is that nobody has taken the legacy...
- with Zaelia since 2008, (vague memory) I saw less than 50 threads in pure french, less than 10 noobs with private message in french to ask help personnaly in french (barriere language), less than 5 french users who product wonderfull script, less than 10 claim and active french (on year), two golden age was 2009 ,rebirth in 2011 with news articles... but we are in 2014...
Therefore very very difficult to estimate the current number of french reader of this forum (so bilingue if active, or noob just linked by google)...

Anyway, nevermind :D

Once upon a time the German forum was independent, though hosted by Chris. Then Holy Poly occupied the forum and reestablished it as a sub-community without having asked anyone and without transferring any existing content. The old forum was locked and subsequently we lost many of the active users.

When Tank was setting up the new forum, we had a short discussion whether the German forum should be independent again. But because the remaining users were used to be a sub-community in the meantime, the majority of users (I'd guess more than five) voted to keep things as they are, hoping that most of the old content could be transferred to the new sub-community. It wasn't, so we had a third 'clean' start.

IMO that's why we have a German sub-community, just a sort of backward compatibility.

And that door to a second hosted by me sub community remains.
I do posess an archive of the pre 2012 feb german forum but i just have not had the necessary time. If someone with the necessary skills and established reputation wanted to i would grant access to attempt the process again. but i have not had inquiry for such at this time

I was offtopic with my idea and with others languages... and it is not over...
Today, randomly, I read an article and I found that Russians use AutoHotkey for debug and improve their free operating system ReactOS (Windows NT clone), Nasdrovia !
http://www.reactos.org/fr/node/663 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReactOS
Anybody tried if AutoHotkey works on this OS ?

Else about chineses, the download stats of current documentation:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ahkcn/f ... 2014-02-27
not inactive, no direct link, difficult to get it, maybe contact author (who ?) and change the path, and an online doc by default... also to add a link of chinese suforum on the .chm file home page, http://ahkscript.org/boards/viewforum.php?f=26 not only http://ahkscript.org | AutoHotkey 中文化项目
Else still activity at the old chinese forum http://ahk8.com/, they will come here (same modo) or do a redirect or import database or prefer to have a double forum ?

So, if we haven't a full translated documentation then no subforum ! :D

Their whole system of automation tests runs on AutoHotkey scripts. I'd share a direct link to the archive of their .ahk automation tests, but I'm permabanned by IP on reactos.org

As for the rest replies in this topic - many words, zarro deeds.
Seems like tank hates Russians and they are not welcomed here.

I am not agree... no hate, everybody is welcome...
However, maybe we have to speak if forum.script-coding.com wants to come here... same for http://www.autohotkey.co.kr/ or http://ahk8.com/ (@Tank no link of this chinese forum in the home page, at bottom, communities) or other language (I haven't search more)... my list was not idiot if we can host and regroup, some already exist... to fight under the same banner...
