Being honest I don't understand the need for language specific subforums. We are supposed to create a community, sharing works that can be understood by all members. Almost all coders can speak enough english to be understood by the community and I've never seen someone complaining for how bad this/that user's english is...

the real reason for it is for cultural familiarity. like it or not we are not all the same. The germans for instance most will participate globally but often feel more comfortable discussing projects with people of similar cultural and language idioms. It is unfair to assume everyone will speak english or ask people to play the lottery with guessing what language a thread will exist in. the sub forums allow a significant grouping of users to freely exchange ideas in a native language without feeling like they are alienating or being alienated on. Like it or not google translate and many similar tools just cannot accurately translate certain ideas. An example would be the use of the phrase translated to vinegared cucumber or pickle. but in some cultures it means something very specific. and only people from or with alot of exposure will get the meaning. there is nothing wrong with it. I only don't add support when there don't seem to be a visible presence of such users

Just an evidence about others languages activities, and why we lost potential users....
English: http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/
French: http://www.autoitscript.fr/ http://www.autoit.fr/
German: http://www.autoit.de/
Chinese: http://autoitx.com/
Russian: http://autoit-script.ru/
Polish: http://www.autoit.xaa.pl/
Spanish: http://www.autoit.es/
Portuguese: http://www.autoitbrasil.com/
Vietnamese : http://hocautoit.com/
When we check map of http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q= ... autohotkey, we can see that to have a Vietnamese subforum is abnormal but that created an cultural expect... (same for Taiwan and Germany)
Autohotkey have the same effect about South Korea (forum http://www.autohotkey.co.kr/), but I wonder why about Philippines and Malaysia, maybe fashion at a programming school ?

It's not meant to be rude or discriminatory, the contrary. I find the subforums as something that can potentially fragment the community. Think about German people, discussing and sharing, in native language. What they discuss is not understandable by other people. Of course there are cultural differences, and all the other stuff tank was talking about to take into account, but the matter doesn't change: <the rest of the community cannot understand it>.

Yes it's true that my experience with coders is limited, but not with people of different nations. I work on cruise ships and I really do know what it means to be in the middle of people talking of something you have no idea about it. Anyway, even the most closed-minded of them knows some little english to get in touch with anybody else on the ship. Because what matters at the end, is the ship (or the community) as a whole.

i dont think you realize that many cultures are insulted if you expect assume they also speak english even when they do. but either way its a moot point. If i see a presence of any nationality and they express a collective interest in subforum I will grant it if it makes sense to do it

This can be easily argued because not all nations will be served by subforums. What about if the users A, B, C from X, where X is a country with no subforum, feel the same?

For me this is starting all from wrong basis. Language support must be planned in a different way starting with a localized product. I understand that Autohotkey has a long path already walked out, so this is not feasible. For the way things are now, a subcommunity in a community is nothing that a hindrance to the global community growth.

Anyway you made your point, it's just my 2 cents and is always nice to talk with you guys :)

I dont think you meant it rude.
One part of my "Job" as an Admin here is to exchange results between the German and the English forum.
I can understand english I can partly talk english but if I had to learn AHK in english... nope wont do that, it would have been impossible.
Its like I understand each word but it still makes no sense, just like most of the german community members are in the beginning.
I would simply leave if you would close the german subforum, just like any other german subforum member.
I would move back to Autohotkey.com, just like any other german subforum member.

I understand that. Of course now that the german community is well established it would be such a big step behind to close the forum, it simply cannot be done. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing some really good idea posted there... Do your best!

So what's the decision?
Will you create a sub-forum for russian speakers or will you close german and chinese? (Doing otherwise would be unfair: like germans and chinese are more preferred on this forum than russians).

I prefer to laught, but don't taunt, please no troll, US/UE and Russia use too much propaganda... please stop, else we moderate, and we don't need or want a pogrom...
Also, double meaning say that US and Europe will don't do anything, and also they don't want the new neo-fascism ukrainian government... and we are not representing our governments...

Like a referendum about a free Crimea (because of facts and history), maybe try to gather other russians users and create a list, to initiate a subcommunity...
It seems you are alone (currently, as a russian inside this thread), so you have to do all the work (if I resume, they don't want my idea, and that can create problem in real life for tank, without a good an trustful russian admin)...
Also you already have one russian forum at http://forum.script-coding.com/viewforum.php?id=13, maybe they want to move here, if you speak to their admin...

Good luck!

Hi,
I can't remember if it was me, myself and I - or someone else who has asked Chris in 2004 to establish a "German" Forum. Well, the initial request was about to place a number of flags at the headline of AutoHotkey's home site.
Those should be (variably) linked to the most accepted AHK native language support sites available.
Chris was so kind to set up such a German* site within his own environment but that wasn't the initial idea.

So, why not create an "AHK Forum"-Franchise? Support people actively to setup a local look-a-like (yes, same layout AKA "AHK Corporate Identity") of the US/English forum at their local site. That's it. All legal aspects are covered that way. It's separate. Native language support. Just linked to the "Mother of all forums". If for whatever reason one of those external forums will collapse simply correct/disable the link and try to find someone else who's willing to set up and run its successor.

Just my 2€ Cent & thx 4 listening.

BoBo 8-)

*According to W3Techs, 6.0% of websites are written in German, making it the second most used language on the Internet. (Wikipedia)
** propably from a backup which you are taking from all sites as part of the deal

BTW, if there would be an additional info regarding an authors origin ...

... you provide the option of native language support within the US/English forum because people are able to identify someone who should be able to help if it becomes to complicated.

thanks BoBo
At the time that i hacked this site together Most of the Germans i spoke to prefered a subforum to a separate one. The germans in particular were always such a massive part of AHK that I am willing to entertain a separate Forum at anytime. There is a lot to do and proper language support is of course on the list but I beg your pardon i need help and time that i don't currently have. Make no mistake there is a certain weight to your request just because of who you are. Please accept that i am willing and eager and bear with my limited time. ( of course, if you have such relevant skills lets talk :) )
