From a discussion on IRC about "abbreviations make everything look professional", we came up with the idea of:
CAE: Certified AutoHotkey Engineer. It would look good on a resume. "I've had my C.A.E. for 6 years"
Everyone thinks it's a good idea. But it has no meaning yet and it could be a lot of things, and this topic is for that.
A few ideas sofar:
- Write a bunch of lessons/chapters explaining stuff from complete noob to advanced DLLCALL stuff.
- Make a hefty training manual (300+ pages?) and sell it online.
- Make interactive tutorials.
- Schedule local meetings to try and get people into programming.
- whatever else... Discuss and share below.
* (all of the above could be free or $$$ or donation based)
How would you become "certified"? I don't know. But perhaps have a few (paid?) volunteers who know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff would overlook the people doing the lessons. Or something. Maybe it's just another acronym which no real professional meaning. This is all for discussion.

Re: CAE: Certified AutoHoktey Engineer
That is a great idea.
Total support.
My suggestion: Nominees for such a certificate should share at least one complete application (written by themselves in the AutoHotkey language) with the community. Could be anything: a drawing tool to replace MS Paint, an audio file converter with support for multiple formats, etc.

awesome idea!
I have always despaired that my skills in AHK can't translate into something I can put on my resume...

Offical Group Projects:
Make some Projects with some people together wich are difficult to manage alone.
Also give everybody the opportunity to join and make comments.
The full process should be visible, from Design to final result.

Awesome idea. I was actually hoping for something like that for quite a while.nnnik wrote:Offical Group Projects:

Is it something that could actually help a broad audience? If it is, it's not selfish at all. The idea is good if it is geared towards creating useful apps to show the many uses of the AutoHotkey languagennnik wrote:Well I might need some help with something

You know what! Like actually make a webpage like codeacademy just ahk,
@blackholyman if you release it I'll try to make a web page based on it or something..
Or let people work together, Either way, I love the idea!
Kudos to you and all!

If it is leading to something like codeacademy or Interactive Tutorial, I am eagerly waiting.

+1 This is a great idea. This may be a great way to focus and strengthen the community. I feel AHK has the potential to play a modular component in home automation. There are tons of things that could be automated in home now thanks to open source hardware and other emerging techs. I could really go on all day on the importance of automation. Which is why a Certified AutoHotkey Engineer has value in my mind all ready. I want to be one.
+1 on the interactive tuts and where do I sign up for Alpha Testing. I have been working on mind map for months dealing with interactive tuts. Which to me is going to play a huge role in Teaching and learning. It really is crazy the amount of parallelism in ideas I see come out of the community.
Cheers!

Re: CAE: Certified AutoHotkey Engineer
First request: I copy paste the examples from the help file a lot and tweak the code etc.accordingly
So if in the Chm file itself OR may be Some new help file, could there be a copy button near the top right corner of every example the pressing of which copies the Example Code to the clipboard? i have so far manually copied the examples like more than 200 times. Looking Forward

The MCode Generator made by Bentschi is written in AHK:
http://bentschi.no-ip.org/mcode/
http://bentschi.no-ip.org/mcode/mcodegen2.ahk
Now that we see that this idea has a lot of supporters i guess we can start:
Tutorial:
How do we do it.
I suggest that we Split the whole Tutorial in 4-5 Parts and difficulties.
1. Hotkeys Gosub Goto Pseudo Arrays
2. Functions & Easy DllCalls
3. Objects OOP & Prototype Orientated Programming
4. MCode & complex structures & What's after ahk.(example C++ Assembly C#...)
(5. looking at the AHK interpreter.)

Re: CAE: Certified AutoHotkey Engineer
forgot to link a concept I've had for an interactive tutorial for years now, since before I made the tutorial remake.
Using an ActiveX control would make this quite easy, just need motifivation to write the content ._.

[2013-10-05 11:14:07] <@tidbit> this was my idea of an interactive tutorial: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t0lpwgstcvroq ... -13-53.png
[2013-10-05 11:15:05] <@tidbit> ofcourse the list of things on the left could be loaded/changed. Different libraries of courses (html/css files)
