Haha, the video is so true. I do sometimes(?) have moments like the first bit though.
[EDIT:] The video's epic, right. Btw the comments underneath the video are great too.

Hehe quick on the draw, I was just going to add another video.

20191018 QATAR started air-conditioning the outdoors / Climate change

Qatar now so hot it has started air-conditioning the outdoors
Giant coolers in public areas accelerating climate crisis further by using electricity from fossil fuels
Temperatures in Qatar – one of the hottest places on Earth –
have risen so much that authorities have installed air conditioning in the open air including in streets and outdoor markets.
The country, where summer temperatures now reach up to 46C, has already started air-conditioning its football stadiums in preparation for the
World Cup in 2022 – itself delayed because of the extreme heat.
Giant coolers have also been installed along pavements and even in outdoor shopping malls so a cool breeze allows life to go on as before.

The website obesity crisis
https://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm
Let me start by saying that beautiful websites come in all sizes and page weights.
I love big websites packed with images. I love high-resolution video.
I love sprawling Javascript experiments or well-designed web apps.
This talk isn't about any of those.
It's about mostly-text sites that, for unfathomable reasons, are growing bigger with every passing year.

What if you still need a phone number?
While most major sites allow authenticator apps, some are still stuck on phone numbers.
But you have an option here too: Instead of your cellphone number, give them a Google Voice number.

For the Americans like me...
46C = 114.8 Fahrenheit

The United States is not immune to super hot temperatures.

Death Valley regularly hits above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius). The greatest number of consecutive days with a maximum temperature of 100 F or above was 154 days in the summer of 2001, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The summer of 1996 had 40 days over 120 F, and 105 days over 110 F, making it the hottest summer on record.

On July 10, 1913, the weather station at what is now Furnace Creek Ranch measured a record high of 134 F (57 C), a temperature that has not been beat anywhere in the United States since.

In Back to the Future Part II (movie released in 1989) when Marty went to the future (2015), there was one scene where he was worried about the rain. Doc looked at his watch and said to wait 5 seconds. I'm ready for that future! Weather modeling and quantum computing sounds like a match made in heaven.

Update your iPhone 5 to continue using App Store, iCloud, email, web, and other services
Starting just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019,*
iPhone 5 will require an iOS update to maintain accurate GPS location and to continue to use functions that rely on correct date and time including App Store, iCloud, email, and web browsing.
This is due to the GPS time rollover issue that began affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers on April 6, 2019.
Affected Apple devices are not impacted until just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019.

20191027 Germany Munich Oktoberfest flatulence / Climate Change
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/27/oktoberfest-munich-methane-emissions-environment
Oktoberfest is attended by millions whose burps and flatulence contribute towards its emissions.
For the millions of people who descend on Munich for the annual bash, Oktoberfest is a celebration of beer, bands and bratwurst.
But as the dust settles for another year on the world’s largest folk festival, and die Bierleichen (“beer corpses”)
return to the land of the living, environmental scientists have released the first analysis of methane emissions from the 16-day party.
Researchers at Technical University in Munich walked and cycled around the perimeter of the festival last year with mobile sensors aloft.
The instruments found the event emitted nearly 1,500kg of methane – 10 times the amount that wafted off Boston, Massachusetts, in the same period.

20191104 MsMpEng.exe Microsoft Defender now for LINUX
https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-defender-atp-is-coming-to-linux-in-2020/
Microsoft: Defender ATP is coming to Linux in 2020 / By Liam Tung | November 4, 2019 -- 14:48 GMT (14:48 GMT)
Microsoft is planning to bring its Defender antivirus to MLinux systems next year and will be giving a demo of how security specialists can use Microsoft Defender at the Ignite Conference this week.
Microsoft announced the brand change from Windows Defender to Microsoft Defender in March after giving security analysts the tools to inspect enterprise Mac computers for malware via the Microsoft Defender console.
Rob Lefferts, corporate vice president for Microsoft's M365 Security, told ZDNet that Microsoft Defender for Linux systems will be available for customers in 2020.

;- tipps from ahk-user drugwash :
;- Disable Windows Defender if it's running in the background - it's known to slow the system down.
;- Run services.msc and look through those set to Automatic startup. They are quite a lot and some are useless or even unwanted. But don't disable anything unless you're 100% sure.
;- Try different (even older) versions of certain drivers (video, LAN etc.), maybe one of the current ones acts up.

Time to Market is not a good metric
http://www.fefe.de/timetomarket.html

Modern software development is typically producing deeply flawed products with many defects.
If one tries to find out why, the most often cited reason is that "time to market is more important than quality" and "we can fix it later".
Unfortunately you will usually find that it is not actually fixed later.
However, in this web page I am looking for well known counter examples to the thesis that time to market is more important than quality.
I am looking for products that were influential enough to have a Wikipedia page but are now just a footnote of history.
So, here we go:

Altavista
Palm pilot
Microsoft Tablet PC
Myspace
Geocities
C-Netz
Lotus 1-2-3
Wordstar
Pkzip
