😏

https://docs.python.org/3.8/whatsnew/3.8.html#assignment-expressions
Assignment expressions
There is new syntax := that assigns values to variables as part of a larger expression. It is affectionately known as “the walrus operator” due to its resemblance to the eyes and tusks of a walrus.

In this example, the assignment expression helps avoid calling len() twice:

Code: Select all

if (n := len(a)) > 10:
    print(f"List is too long ({n} elements, expected <= 10)")

"This Dutch 'tradition' called 'Zwarte Piet' is disturbing!", says Kardashian.

Pegida is for Zwarte Piet and considers it nonsense that at national entry only soot wipes are allowed.
In protest, Wagensveld was disguised as Zwarte Piet.
The group was allowed to hold a playful action between the public, but refused, according to a municipal spokesman from the soot.
This was meant as a demonstration and therefore the group had to attend a special demonstration course.
When they refused, they were arrested. According to the police, it is not yet clear how long the activists will be detained.
NVU boss Constant Kusters also came to Apeldoorn with some supporters to defend "Dutch cultural norms and values."
No longer allowed ... arrested ... our culture is destroyed ...

-The origin of Zwarte Piet has him getting grubby with soot due to climbing in chimneys, right? So why is he made up in blackface, instead of

20191123 Historians Find Another Spy in the U.S. Atomic Bomb Manhattan-Project Los Alamos
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/23/science/manhattan-project-atomic-spy.html
His Soviet code name was Godsend, and he came to Los Alamos from a family of secret agents.
The world’s first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945, in the New Mexican desert — a result of a highly secretive effort code-named the Manhattan Project, whose nerve center lay nearby in Los Alamos.
Just 49 months later, the Soviets detonated a nearly identical device in Central Asia, and Washington’s monopoly on nuclear arms abruptly ended.
How Moscow managed to make such quick progress has long fascinated scientists, federal agents and historians. The work of three spies eventually came to light.
Now atomic sleuths have found a fourth.
Oscar Seborer, like the other spies, worked at wartime Los Alamos, a remote site ringed by tall fences and armed guards.

Thanksgiving Turkey The White House • November 26, 2019
BREAKING: President Trump pardons ‘Butter’ as the 2019 National Thanksgiving Turkey
This afternoon, President Donald J. Trump continued a cherished White House holiday tradition by officially pardoning the National Thanksgiving Turkey.
“Bread” and “Butter,” two birds from North Carolina, were the feathered contestants vying for this year’s honor.
In perhaps the closest turkey pardon contest in White House history,
Butter won over Americans’ hearts by a slim margin—taking 50.3% of the vote.

President Trump pardons the National Thanksgiving Turkey ( both) !

Speaking from the Rose Garden, President Trump decided to extend a pardon to both lucky birds.
He also wished all Americans a happy, peaceful Thanksgiving.
After a hard-fought race, both turkeys have earned some quality rest and relaxation time.
Following today’s Rose Garden ceremony, they are now headed to their new home at “Gobblers Rest” on the Virginia Tech campus.
They will be cared for by veterinarians and students at the school’s exhibit, where they can be visited by the public.

It cited brokerage firm China Securities as estimating that as many 30 million pieces of hardware would need to be replaced as a result.

New demand for very old farm tractors specifically because they're low tech
Farmers are increasingly sick of high-tech tractors that are expensive to buy and usually impossible to fix yourself due to their integrated digital technology.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, "Tractors manufactured in the late 1970s and 1980s are some of the hottest items in farm auctions across the Midwest these days."
To be sure, the farmers buying these old machines aren't luddites.
In fact, they often customize and retrofit them with contemporary tech like GPS for automatic steering

oh man, I think many would love to know the answer to that (42 btw)! However, some argue that "the search for a purpose" is the purpose per se. :think:

i just spent 20 minutes trying to debug a script with this line:

WinGetPosEx(hwnd, x, y, w, h, ol, ot, or, ob)

hint: mistakenly using the variable name "or" will result in the interpreter changing it to "||"

@joedf
yes, maybe. In a way yes. But you do not know it then. Just a kind of life with less abstract concepts. In the term "purpose", the drive sounds externally fixed, when "feeling", simply "living", the "purpose" is more inter-defined, and then one can omit the term altogether, or need not even invent it.

Pretty late yesterday, tired. Found a script which had just the thing I was looking for, that's copying active window's title to clipboard and not printing to MsgBox. Couldn't tell what the last symbol of a hotkey firing it was, modifier or not. But I've seen it mentioned somewhere in the Docs the other day, with right keywords I could possibly find it using search box. ..Looking at the section describing One True Brace and seeing it's not the place, I look back at the search box and stare in awe, mildly amused.

Appearing to my eyes was.. one true block
