Helgef is back, not coincidental. i'd rather have a real dev doing actual real work, than someone who gets banned from every website he frequents

jeeswg regardless of how helpful you thought he was caused several issues in this community.
-He commonly spread misinformation (we all do to a degree) but reacted aggressively towards corrections and often kept arguing for hours on end.
-This led to a lot of conflict between him and several more advanced members of the community.
-It finally resulted in him threatening Helgef and joedf in dm.

There will be absolutely no pardon for this behavior.
He will never be welcome here again.

Very sad that he got banned!
I liked him, yet I respect the mods' decisions.

I wish the AutoHotkey Community gave jeeswg a new chance to participate in the forums. I've seen that he has contributed a few bits of code to v2 on GitHub so he's clearly still engaged with AutoHotkey and many of his forum threads are still very useful resources - I've learned a lot from them. No matter what transpired back then several years have now passed, a duration longer than the prison sentence for various crimes. People change and grow with time and learn from mistakes. So in the spirit of the holiday season, let the past be past and unban him.

I agree. Of course most of us don't know the full details of the story, it has been some years now. People can change, and sometimes enough time can heal wounds. Considering that he is still engaged with AutoHotkey and many users are reading threads and scripts created by him, it might be better that he could update and respond to his threads.

People can engage with him wherever he can currently be found if they would like. Not all will know where to find him, but that’s not this forum’s concern. If anyone wants to post that information in response to questions about his threads, they can do so.

The moderators and administrators of this site are unpaid volunteers with plenty to do with the time they have to devote to this, and potentially again dealing with the problems he caused for them — much of it behind the scenes — is not something they should be subjected to. They keep this site running for the benefit of the community, and we should not make their job more difficult for the sake of someone who didn’t take the opportunity to improve his behavior despite being given several chances to do so at the time.

I see, that's an important point. It sounds then like the only way it could happen is if the person/persons he caused problems for were to speak out and say something like "Yeah, bad history. But several years have passed now, so I'm ok with giving him a new chance".

A lifetime ban for anyone is bad news all round, what about 6 months - 1 year - 2 years perhaps, depending on the severity of the issues. In most cases temporary bans achieve their purpose.
I too would welcome Jeeswg back, but only if it doesn't end up wasting the time and patience of subscribers here, especially the mods.

I've been open to the idea for quite some time, but the consensus is as mentioned.
But boiler mentioned a very good point, we're all volunteers and the bit of time is precious, so to speak.

That's quite a load! I did the same for an MBA and it was three years of nothing but work, school, study, and sleeping. Good luck!

One year later I renew the wish that the AutoHotkey Community gives jeeswg a new chance as forum participant. I see that he in 2022 continued to contribute ideas and pull requests to the AutoHotkey GitHub repo. What boiler wrote above is still very important. I'm just saying another year passed, more time for someone to grow and change compared to past behaviour, so consider it.
