I wouldn't worry too much. Do what you can and what you think is best, but should the worst happen then there is not much more one can do. :?

Internet of Shit

Samsung or Sony or LG or with Android ... ?
Samsung SMART TV owners complain about increasingly obtrusive ads
Ads in your TV interface
Sometime in 2016 Samsung began pushing a software update to enable ads in the user interface of previously acquired Smart TVs as well as new TVs.
The ads were shown above a new icon in the bottom menu.
What is ACR? It is short for Automatic Content Recognition and it means that the TV uses identification technology to analyze and recognize the content displayed on the screen at any time.
It is used to build a personal profile of you and your interests in order to serve "native ads on the home screen" and "video ads on Samsung TV Plus" as well as ads "on the biggest to the smallest screens".
In other words ads that venture beyond your TV.

There is apparently no way to deactivate the ads.

- "In general, the banner cannot be deactivated in the Smart Hub. We thank you for your feedback and assure you that Samsung takes customer feedback into account in product development," Samsung Germany said in response to the tweet.

I agree. Advertising has become significantly pervasive. I've avoided it as much as I can by watching Netflix and downloading or recording shows so that I can skip through the commercials. But "they" are figuring out ways to make it much harder to avoid ads.

I just got Windows 10 and I noticed that I was getting ads that I wasn't getting before on Windows 7. I think I fixed that problem (Hint: I use a DNS proxy server with ad blocking) but I had to do extra stuff that I didn't have to do on Windows 7.

Watching YouTube from YouTube.com has become unbearable. I now only use a download tool to download the YT video and skip most of the advertising. This trick doesn't work with live streaming shows or very long videos (1 hour+) but it works for everything else.

My TV is smart but it's old and it doesn't have all of the ad junk in it yet but if/when I get a new TV, I will probably run into the problems you've described.

OK, enough of the complaining...

The best solution I've seen so far is a DNS proxy server that runs on a separate machine on your network. Your PC, TV, Phone, everything can use it to bypass ads. Pi-Hole is not the only DNS proxy server with ad-blocking but it has become very popular and it looks like it works well. Here's more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBXTnrD_Zs4

There are a bunch of other videos out there. Just search for "Pi-Hole" or "DNS proxy server", etc.

I've have been tempted to buy a Raspberry Pi so that I can install Pi-Hole for several years now but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm using a DNS proxy server on my PC and it's doing most of the work but it would be nice to have something that works for all of my devices.

More on the ads on Samsung TVs. I just found this on the assholedesign subreddit.

Apparently spending $2500 on a Samsung TV doesn't create them enough revenue. The need to place an AD cover 50% of the screen
https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedesign/comments/j2xrts/apparently_spending_2500_on_a_samsung_tv_doesnt/

Read the comments. Apparently quite a few people are unhappy that manufacturers are going in this direction. Also, the comments include clues on how to block these ads in your router.

And not only that,” President Trump continued, pleased as punch, “my doctor assures me that this is the most positive corona test that an American President has ever completed.”

Tragic. OTOH, if this happened in the United States, I would just say, "Of course it happened here". In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this hasn't already happened in the United States several times. We've have already identified that the current administration and the governors in some states are hiding or purposely fudging the data so that things won't appear to be as bad as they are.

The United States is going through one of the biggest f*ck ups in history. We have less than 5% of the world's population but we have (at last check) 21% of the world's infections and 20% of the deaths. Those percentages were higher but the virus continues to spread around the world.

Sometimes I wish that 2020 would be over already but then I think we should be grateful for how good we have it now. It could be worse.

I've just moved to the newest version of EDGE in my 6yr old slower HTPC.
Its considerably faster than Chrome and seemingly uses less memory. I'm missing some of the useful chrome extensions, though.
Oh my! Tried just now. I can install Chrome extensions in Microsoft Edge
I most probably will never go back to Chrome!!!
But Edge doesn't auto-translate pages like chrome does, does it? If it wasn't for this sole feature, I would have dropped chrome a long time ago.

No, it doesn't. :)
I do miss that feature when I try to view other language forums here.
Otherwise, the only non-english site I browse is amazon.jp

Workaround: use the Google Translator Chrome extension.

Well, the question isn't if you will catch it, just when.

It would be more accurate to say that it may be that you are more likely to eventually catch it than not. I have not heard of any projections that say everyone will eventually catch it. Even if no precautions were taken, most experts believe that a population would reach “herd immunity” when most (60% - 70%) of the population has been infected. Even with the question of whether those who have had it will have long-term immunity, it is still not expected that it will infect everyone eventually.

And that, hopefully, is a worst-case scenario. If most people continue to take the recommended precautions until an effective vaccine is available and widely distributed, then the percentage of people who eventually get infected could be significantly lower.

In 1952, London was surrounded by a thick smog for several days, which took the lives of at least 4,000 people.

We can better keep friends with Donald Trump, the new president of the United States.
That is why we introduce our country to him in a way that will probably appeal to him the most.
