I watched that the other evening. I knew parts of the story, but never knew how deep and dark it was.

Dave Plummer's videos are great - I especially like his anecdotes as a Microsoft insider.

Flag handling ....

------------------
https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/publicworks/news/how-properly-dispose-your-american-flag
-- How To Properly Dispose of your American Flag | Public Works and Environmental Services
Did you know the average outdoor flag lasts only about 90 days?
Flying the stars and stripes outside your home is a great way to showcase pride in our county.
But the ever-changing weather and the blasting rays of the sun will inevitably result in a worn-out flag.
-It is against etiquette to fly one that is worn out.
-It is also disrespectful to simply throw the American flag out with the trash.
-So, what should you do with Old Glory after it is too tattered to represent our country?
-Because it is important to regularly replace flags that are faded or torn, the United States has a set of laws pertaining to disposal known as the United States Flag Code, or “retiring the flag”.
There are four ways to respectfully retire an American flag:
1 - Donate Tattered Flags
2 - Burning
3 - Flag Burial
4 - Shredding
---------------------
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/8
-- 4 U.S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute
(a)The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
(b)The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
(c)The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
(d)The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.
It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free.
Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
(e)The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
(f)The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
(g)The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
(h)The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
(i)The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever.
It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.
Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
(j)No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform.
However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations.
The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing.
Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
(k)The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

-- The super-rich ‘preppers’ planning to save themselves from the apocalypse

They started out innocuously and predictably enough.
Bitcoin or ethereum?
Virtual reality or augmented reality?
Who will get quantum computing first, China or Google?
Eventually, they edged into their real topic of concern:
New Zealand or Alaska?
Which region would be less affected by the coming climate crisis?
It only got worse from there.
Which was the greater threat: global warming or biological warfare?
How long should one plan to be able to survive with no outside help?
Should a shelter have its own air supply?
What was the likelihood of groundwater contamination?
Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system, and asked:
“How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?” The event.
That was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, solar storm, unstoppable virus, or malicious computer hack that takes everything down.

Footage showing that some residents in the earthquake-hit Chinese city of Chengdu were stopped from fleeing their compounds due to a Covid lockdown has sparked anger and disbelief online.
Some in Chengdu say they were told to stay inside through a 6.6-magnitude earthquake on Monday that has killed at least 65 people.
Those that ran out say they found the exits shut due to Covid restrictions.
Chengdu, home to 21 million people, is currently under strict lockdown rules.
