Netflix mailed its last red-enveloped DVD last month.
Now Best Buy will stop selling DVDs and Blu-ray discs at the end of the 2023 holiday season, too.
Best Buy says that streaming has made DVDs obsolete and it can use physical space in its stores and warehouses for tech products in higher demand.

Ahhh, you're making me wax nostalgic.

In 1981 I wrote a full medical billing system for a small practice using AppleSoft BASIC on 64k Apple II+ computers tied to a 10MB Corvus HDD (~$8000) via an OmniNet (1 Mb/sec) network. Apple's DOS couldn't understand anything larger than its 143k floppy disk size, so the HDD had to be partitioned into 67 volumes of 143k each. Your random access files didn't just automatically spill over to the next volume. For each record you wanted, you had to calculate which volume it was on and the relative record number to read or write. Corvus had a backup system called "Mirror" that would back up about 1MB/min to a VHS tape recorder.

The good ol' days...

Sorry, I should have been more specific. USB didn't exist in 1984, so the Sharp obviously did not have it. What port on the Sharp did you adapt the USB to - rs232 (serial)?

Might be worth the challenge just to see if it can be fooled. But I'm sure Google developers are just a tad more clever than me.

I've been using this trick on and off for about 6 months. It has come in handy when I just want to read one or two articles from a pay site. It doesn't always work but it usually does.

The archive.is internet trick

Thanks. archive.is has been unusable lately and so this looks like a good alternative.

I installed it on Firefox for now. I tried it on a few of the supported sites and it appears to work as advertised. I only used archive.is infrequently and so it might be a while before I use this extension to read a paywall blocked article that I found in another browser.

There is a Chromecast version but there is no automatic install. You have to download a Zip file, extract the files, go into developer mode, and so on.
