AHK Portable , where to download?

Post by armin889 » 30 Jun 2022, 18:29

Hi,
I think about using AHK Portable, where to download a trusted version?

Does the Portable have any downgrades compare to the installed version?

Thanks a lot

Our download page should be fine: Choose the zip-version on this page: https://www.autohotkey.com/download/

Downgrades? The autohotkey.exe interpreters and the language capabilities should be the same.
Of course, the installer can assign .ahk-files to the interpreter (via the registry) or establish UIA access (and a few other things).
Does it matter? Depends on your requirements...

After unzipping it still requires to install it, but the "portable" option still is greyed out, I don't understand.

There is no need to install Autohotkey. In its most basic usage, you only need a autohotkey.exe file, the script interpreter.
https://www.autohotkey.com/docs/v2/Program.htm#portability wrote:The file AutoHotkey.exe is all that is needed to launch any .ahk script.

Renaming AutoHotkey.exe also changes which script it runs by default, which can be an alternative to compiling a script for use on a computer without AutoHotkey installed. For instance, MyScript.exe automatically runs MyScript.ahk if a filename is not supplied, but is also capable of running other scripts.
But without installing, you might miss out on some features: https://www.autohotkey.com/docs/v2/Program.htm#install
