Windows 11 - Internet Explorer

08 Sep 2022, 03:31

I have to use a actual browser for some of my work, winhttp etc is not an option. I have been using ie for years and it's great for what I need. Now on my new win 11 machine obviously it's not working.

I found this joe gline video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySRSb4lVwuY and he suggests edge - ie mode etc.

Is there no way to use ie itself the way it was? This new edge way looks like a mess, and obviously if I have to learn something else it will be chrome.ahk or other options.

Joes video is from the end of last year, does anyone have anything new on this?

Thanks
BoBo

Besides that IE's COM features (AFAIK) are still working within Win11*, Chromium**-based browsers like Chrome/Edge/Opera/...
seems like the way to go, simply for their prevalence: https://www.zdnet.com/pictures/all-the-chromium-based-browsers/5/

were you using IE COM for automation? if so, have you tried Rufaydium?

if I cant use ie ill look into it, I have a few big scripts that use ie as in the physical browser and these items cannot be automated without a real browser.

I can hardly think of any "physical browser"-features (buttons/address bar/???) that you won't be able to use with another browser as well!??
And as said, IE's "core" related stuff like using its COM features are still available (with a little help from your admin)

with physical browser all I meant was not urldownloadtofile / winhttp etc

The edge solution is a big mess, I tried it, glines was right, it works, it doesn't work etc

Hi.

Install virtualization on Windows 11, and create a Windows 10 or Windows 7 that has Internet Explorer. A cumbersome path  , but perhaps the fastest.
