Checking mail for multiple email mailboxes

Hi everyone...

I've been struggling to find a (working) code snippet or anything to help me out together something that can check multiple mailboxes for new mail.

The use case is I have a list of services email accounts (which I need to add or remove over time) which need to be checked at regular intervals for new mail and notify a user.

They aren't Gmail accounts and we aren't running outlook but I can write a script to add server credentials to an .ini file but...

It's the key part -- logging on to a mail server and checking mail -- that I can't crack.

Does anyone have a functional bit of code I would start from?. I haven't found anything that works nor that is focussed on checking mail (plenty of sending mail examples).
