Why still flagged up for viruses?

19 Jun 2023, 09:22

I always run any program through virustotal
AHK is still flagged by 10 virus companies - most ones you've never heard of - but one or 2 definitely heard of

What is the problem with getting a clean bill?

You should ask the antivirus vendors who show false positives.

You can also add an exclusion for your process, script, or directory.

It might not be fair... but surely it's upto AHK to jump through whatever hurdles are needed to get passed by the virus tests?

@mikeyww exclusion? Never heard of that before. Can you explain or give me a link to read up.

Thanks.

I just meant with your own antivirus software. If you have a good one, you probably do not need the separate check. Desktop antivirus software generally has an option to exclude your custom listings. You can then avoid the popup messages. Microsoft Windows itself is generally pretty good at catching malware anyway.

Sure, perhaps a complete rewrite would help - are you free?
If you have special insights into that industry, please share.

It is certainly not up to everyone who creates software to cater to any company who claims they check for viruses but only lazily report code as potentially malicious only because it doesn’t match their database of whitelisted applications, not because they actually found anything malicious in the code.

Haha...
Erm, I don't have a few 1000 hours spare to rewrite. 🙃

Still not wanting to give up...
Has anyone from AHK though to reach out to these antivirus companies?

I'm surprised this hasn't been shared: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=62266 some really useful links.
