Touch screen detect

Is there a way to detect the touch screen click in the similar way to detect keyboard key by Input hook?

One way to tell is to keep monitoring the position of the mouse, and if the change from the last position is large, then it was most likely a tap.

It is a very expensive mode.
Isn't there a way to detect the touch screen tap, double tap, and so on?
