Basically, I want to do this:
::l#::λ
I want to be able to type the special unicode character lambda by typing l# (lowercase l followed by #). I have tried a few things, the one I put above prints two other random unicode characters. Putting the lambda character in {} doesn't print anything. Would really appreciate some help.

Works for me.
Make sure to save your script in UTF-8 with BOM encoding: https://www.autohotkey.com/docs/FAQ.htm#nonascii

Re: Auto replace text to a special unicode character
Ah thank you, I didn't realise you needed to save with BOM, elsewhere people have only mentioned UTF-8, cheers for you help
Re: Auto replace text to a special unicode character
No problem!
I think in AHK v2 (beta) you could use both, with or without BOM.
